Hello everyone,

From some time I thinking about to get better grinders, GOSET grinders making me a huge pain in the ass ( belt tracking etc...)

Now I Thinking about to have 4 grinders.

2x for 50x2000mm belts and 2x for 50x1220mm belt

But grinders for longer belts will be like a Goliath.

Power: 3kW
Speed: 0-40m/s

Both rigid and heavy ( about 100kg) and only vertical.
1. For wet grinding with shields ( I don't want to get me and sorrounding walls in coolant etc.)
2. For dry grinding
Both with dust collectors.

For smaller belts:
Power: 1kW
Speed: 0-18m/s

1. Horizontial, for making satin, and to work with small contact wheels.
2. Belt Sharpener with angle set jig.

Main problem in all grinders are for me: Tables and sharpening jig.

What do you suggest in building this grinders?

Decide what needs to be done by them and design the grinder to fit those needs.

Power - 1.5Kw to 2Kw is plenty
Variable speed - a must
Belt size - 50mm wide and any length that is convenient 1500-3000mm
Horizontal/vertical - making a grinder that tilts sideways is a good feature.
Sturdiness - by far the most important thing in a build. make it beefy and roc solid.
Accessories - multiple accessory arm slots is good. Make strong and adjustable work rests and jigs.
Wet and dry grinding - if at all possible, build one dedicated wet grinder. It may end up your most used grinder.

Both big grinders will have 2-3kW of power and variable speed in range 0-40m/s.
Weight of single grinder will be in 100kg range.

And they will be rigid vertical, and third grinder will be rigid horizontial for making satin, and to work with small wheels.

One will be for wet work, and second will be for dry work.
Big grinders will be mostly only for bevels, because I will water cut 90% of my knives.
Then I will have good repeatability of shape. ( And this is cheaper that Belts + Time + power + Drilling holes)

4th small grinder with belts 50x1220mm will be for sharpening on 3M Trizact Belts, with sharpening jig :)
