I have seen several threads in the last few years asking questions about different two wheel grinders vs grinders that are multi wheeled. I used a two wheeled grinder for almost 8 years and recently got a grinder that is similar to the KMG. After grinding 2 blades on it, I can honestly say, man, what a difference. I will keep the two wheeled grinder for slack belt work on handles, but I would highly reccomend anyone to save their money and get one of the multi wheeled grinders.

Jake, go to http://www.usaknifemaker.com/, go to the search feature on the lower left hand side and type in "grinder kit". The second item down will be a frame kit for the no weld grinder, it does have some welds on it when bought this way. I purchased the kit and then added on the rest of the items needed from this website. Grinder works great.

Muleskinner, I will try to explain some of what I mean. Smoothness is one main thing. Also, I use a work rest and the grinder that I was using, if you put a piece of metal against the belt pressing slightly against the platen, the grind would not be straight. It would have a slight U to it. In other words the belt would have a very slight space on the backside, in the center of the belt, between it and the platen. The top wheel has , what I call a ridge, in the center which is what I think causes the belt to not be flat. The other multi wheeled grinder has two flat wheels, one just above the platen and one just below, resulting in the belt being flatter against the platen. In my opinion this is a lot better setup.
