Grinding a finshed blade

Hi I was grinding a broken spyderco endura blade. The 1st inch of the blade snapped off and I reshaped it with a disk grinder, and I made the edge of the blade with a 120 grit belt grinder. I ended up getting some of the finished polished blade grinded off, and having multiply bevels in the the reshaped part of the blade. My question is how do I make the grinded piece of the finished polished blade. My father told me to use a file to even out the blade and to get the scratches off. What is the best way to make the blade finished, nice and polished again? I have access to a good number of metal working tools, and I also have hi grit 1000ish grit sandpaper.

I can't help as well as others can on this, so I won't speak.
However, so that you don't have to use your knife as a prybar or in other situations of extreme stress check out http://www.phlaunt.com/atwoodknives/

Do you have any pictures? That might make it easier to help.
