I got a ton of never used old 2x72 belts, when the belts start spinning they fly off cause the tape or adhesive has worn out.

Anybody got any advise on how to fit them? Are they even worth trying to fix?

They are done.

Cut them up and use them for sanding in your shop.

Not necessarily.

Find some of this: 3M Scotch High Temperature Professional HVAC Duct Tape (1160-HTA 2" x 60 Yards). Not cheap but if you've got a buncha belts that failed it might be worth it.

My HVAC guy turned me on to this miracle tape and left me part of a roll which I used to solve the exact problem 710 described with a bunch of old, dried out 1 x 42 belts I'd stuck away in the garage rafters and cooked for years. This stuff worked really well. I haven't had to use it on 2" wide belts but I'd do it in a flash. Using expensive belts as shop roll is the LAST resort for me.

Ya, there is no hope for them. I went thru almost the whole box with different glues and tapes, they either pop where the glue ends or where the tape ends. Man I got a medium flat rate size box full of 36, 180 and 400 grit, tossed half of them away... Well I know what im doing tomorrow morning... Trugrit here I come!

I have spoken with one of the guys at Klingspore about this. The glue used to splice belts is very special, and has to be kept way below freezing until used. Once brought up to room temp it has a 24 hour shelf life. He said there is no home brew method of safely and securely re-attaching the belts.

This is the third case of this that I've heard in the last year. A good friend of mine called me out of the blue one day panicked. All his belts were flying apart. He has been making knives since prior to the 90's and he had never seen this before.

Like bladsmth, he called around asking what to do. The places he called would not even share that much info.

I ran across a big pile of 1" x 180" belts one time and this company said they would cut them down to any size I wanted I think they quoted me 2 bucks apiece, maybe give them a call and see if they can redo the seams http://www.econaway.com/
