Grinding belt wobble?

Yesterday I put on a brand new Trizact belt and after just a little bit of grinding I called it a night and left the belt on my grinder. Today when I fired my grinder up that belt (practically new) now wobbles back and forth on my wheels, I tried several other belts and there is no wobble and they all track straight. Do belts stretch out when left on the grinder under tension?

Yes they do, or maybe your wheel flat spotted too,

I guess I learnt the hard way, I'll have to use that belt for something other then knives. I've been useing norton blase belts and they've never done that when left under tension, I'll get in the habbit of takeing my belts off after grinding from now on. The flat platten wheels aren't the best either, I cheaped out and made them out of some free pallet jack rollers.

Yeah, learned that with my leather strop belts especaially. Lots of wobble on one of them; leaves blochy stropping.

I know that few do it, but belts should be removed after grinding just like the blade tension should be released after cutting on a bandsaw....but, how many of us actually do these things?????

I too have learned this lesson and I always take my belts off. I still don't reduce bandsaw tension though because tracking gets off on my saw pretty easily.

With those trizact cf's I run them at full speed for a minute before using them. It seems like they need a little bit of warmup or else they'll wobble. A tiny bit of wobble in those belts has always been the norm for me. Do they track perfect for anyone?

When I ran into that problem Javand's suggestion fixed me right up...

"One thing that can fix a wobble from a belt being left on the grinder under tension, is to put it back on with as much tension as you can easily manage without breaking the belt or yourself, and then run it at high speed for 5 mins. Stand back just in case is snaps on you. This will usually stretch the belt more evenly and take out most of the wobble."

I'll try that trick, hopefully it works. My other handfull of trizact belts track perfectly but they aren't as responsive to move when I turn my tracking wheel back and forth as the norton blase belts are.

Blaze belts.

The firmer the backing the more responsive I find belt tracking in general. Aren't trizact quite soft?

I flick mine off the tracking wheel to the side to release the tension when not in use.
