grinding belts question

ok, so i've had an old 2x48 inch belt grinder for a while that i just started using and have never had to buy new belts for it, till now... that being the case, what type of belts do you guys prefer and where is the best place to buy em?

I don't know about the 2 x 48 size as I use a 2 x 72 but this is what I use, and all I use, to grind and finish all my knives. 60 grit orange norton blaze belt, 3M™ Trizact™ A100, 3M™ Trizact™ A45, then 3M Fine scotch brite belt. Brings them to a good smooth satin finish.

Keep water away from the trizact belts.

I then acid etch them and stone wash them in a vibratory tumbler.

I buy my belts from USA knifemaker and Jantz supply.
 
Trugrit is another good place to buy belts. I like 3M ceramic for hagging and the gators and trizact for the rest.

Right on. I use a 2 x 48 Craftsman and go to Trugrit for Norton Blaze 60, 120 belts, 3m Gator belts, and then the other belts for wood and handles.
 
Supergrit has pretty decent prices too. Most of my 2x42 belts I've gotten there. Ceramic belts are a huge step up over the AO ones that you buy in hardware stores. Last longer, cut better (like amazingly better).

As a side note..the cheap AO belts in60-80 grit are great for handle material,at about 2 bucks each you can use a new one for each handle and save your high grade belts for steel.

As usual, I agree with Stan. I like the ceramics at Supergrit, and they also have good cheap AO belts in 10 packs that are perfect for handle work. I usually get my trizacts from Trugrit.
