Grinding Issues

I get mine from a local glass shop. it's called pyroceram and is used in fireplace doors. A piece 2"x9" costs me about 15 bucks. I've seen it on ebay also. Here is a link to where the guy is selling a platen and 2 pieces of glass. I've bought stuff from him before and he's a nice guy. If you contact him, maybe he'll sell you just one piece. I've also seen it on USA Knife Maker's site, but they always seem to be out of stock on about everything.

What do you use to fasten the ceramic onto the platen? Do you get any shocks?

Had the same issue either your L brackets are not a perfect 90 degrees or your work rest is not parallel.

I use epoxy to attach the glass. You need to make a little ledge for it to sit on. I get shocked a little sometimes. Seems like It happened more when it was new.

I attached mine using JB Weld. And for safety sake you really need a shelf under the bottom of the glass. Some have welded a piece, others use a couple of bolts threaded into the front bottom of the platen so that the bolt heads create a shelf. I built a little a ledge that bolts to the bottom of my platen and stick out just far enough to support the bottom of the glass.

I also saw a thread where Karl Anderson says he uses exterior double sided mounting tape that works really well and makes it a lot easier to replace the glass if you should need to. I think the next time I replace mine, I'll try this method.

As far as shocks, I really haven't had any problems with mine, but I have read of others having issues. They use an anti-static belt dressing to solve the problem.

In dry and cold weather, static can be a big problem. The best solution for static is spraying the belt back ( while running) with static-guard, kling-free, etc. laundry anti-static spray.
