I am working on some aeb-l knives and have slightly burned the tip on couple. I wonder if this is detrimental to the steel.
Thanks much and best wishes.

Pre-HT, no problem. Post HT - depends, just what do you can "burnt"? Did the tip glow red? Or, just turn color to a very light brown? OR - turn to darn blue?

Here's a tip for ya, grind the tip area first when the belt is the sharpest.

I see lots of makers do lots of grinding on the main bevels and then when the belt is worn they try to grind the tip of the knife. Consider
putting on a fresh belt for the tip work if you're more comfortable grinding the main
part of the bevel first.

This will help prevent burning.

Yes, should have included, this is pre heat treat. Thanks for the tip Hoss I will try that.
The tips are just browned, not blue, but obviously the got hot.

Pre heat treat it's no problem. It's only really a concern after it's been hardened because the heat will soften the tempering if it gets to hot.
