Okay here's my question. Lets say i've profiled out the 18" blade + whatever length handle (8" inches?) and the wakizashi has a slight curvature to it....what would you masters use to flatten out the slight curvature of the spine?

by flatten i mean taking out all the nasty bandsaw cutting marks you've just done so the grinding/sanding marks run length wise with the spine of the blade.

some sort of edge sander? I know someone has done this before!

I would use 1/4" thick A2 tool steel (as the customer wants). Thanks.

Just run it up and down a wheel, just like the inside curve of a handle. You won't significantly change the curve if you keep it moving. Try to use the largest wheel you can that fits inside the curve.

now if i only mounted my grinder a little more to the right! BAH! The contact wheel sits right above the table! this is gonna be interesting!

Rather than changing my equipment around for a potential one-off deal, or risking the whole blade with an unfamiliar technique on the power equipment, I'd put the blade in a padded vise and draw file the spine. But that's just me. ;)
