Grinding Out Serrations

That is nice.

I jacked up the serrations on my first Barrage trying to sharpen them. Benchmade will replace the blade for $25 but you've inspired me.

I have a DMT aligner and I did get the EEC stone.

I may have to follow your lead. But I still do like a combo edge better.

Heck, give it a shot of your own at grinding them out, and failing all else you can STILL send it back to Benchmade for a blade swap. Nothing to lose, and a potentially cool knife and some skills to gain. :)

Nice job!
Damn and by hand, that was some work :)
Like Komitadjie, I would have went belt just for ease, but you got it done :)
Damn fine job.

Kom, I like the idea of the recurve!
Nice outside the box thinking.
I think some worker Grips are gonna get that treatment.

Well done on the blade. Makes me really want to try something like it now. And i second liking the last serration there. Does it effect cutting at all? I would think it would help dig into whatever you are cutting.

I say go for it, it really was not that hard, and that was my first attempt. I have not used it enough or in a situation to notice the effects of the last serration. I pretty much have only cut my orange for lunch yesterday with it so far. I will post an update if I notice it affecting anything.

I have the very same problem with the very same knife. I bought it like that because I got it used for very little. I do have a homemade belt sander so I may give it a try....

Just go really easy with the belt, and dunk it in water if you can even feel a LITTLE heat building up at the edge. Choose a medium-coarse belt for it, something ~80 would be my choice, the coarser the belt, the more material it removes per amount of heat built in the blade. Really, really light pressure, and alternate sides frequently. :)

Here is a Benchmade B'fly that I removed the serrations. Two photos show the differences.

You inspired me to give this a try. I used the coarsest diamond stone on my Wicked Edge system, a 50 grit.
Here are before and after photos.

That is smooth!
It looks why better without the serrations, totally unique shape.
Functionality I have no clue what might happen with the bottle neck but it is a keeper and showpiece that way and one of a kind!
If you didn't see the handles, it looks like a zombie chopper ... great :)
