Griptilian as an EDC

I have both a regular mini and a Ritter, and they're both great. You don't even know you're carrying it. If I had to choose, I'd choose the Ritter. The Ritter is just a beautiful blade, love the stonewashing, love everything about it, plus it's S30V if that means much to you. And something about that slight thumb ramp with the jimping, my hand just locks so nicely into it for a small knife. Love the parkerized clip too.

Back to the OP's issues.

3" blade or smaller due to locality. Likes the Grip but likes a bigger handle.
This screams mini presidio ultra to me and the ultra's blade grind is way nicer than the grips. Problem solved!

Plus my Cuban Rock Iggie approves, it's his daily EDC! ;)

I know they don't get much attention, but I agree about the Mini Ultra Presidio...

As soon as I took mine out of the box, it really hit me. It is a very comfortable knife. Totally different than a Mini Grip, but still a hard choice between the two as to which is my absolute favorite.. I really like the blade shape on the M.U.P too... Good reason to have both :D

I do like my 550HG Grip. I have used it for some years now and have stonewashed the blade a few times and painted the clip. Still looks good IMO.

Brand new out of the box.

It is 5 years old now but the pictures do not show all the wear.

The screws show most wear since I stonewashed the blade to remove some of the scratches.

For those of you with the Mini Presidio Ultra - how do you like the 440C in relation to Benchmade's 154CM in the griptilian?

Easy enough to sharpen? Durable edge?

I haven't actually used BM's 154. My first Mini Grip was 440C, and it held up very well. I used that knife harder than any knife I have ever owned, and it was easy to sharpen...
I don't think it held the edge quite as long as my early 705 in ATS-34, but I would say it was close.
I think the key to any of the different steels BM uses is their heat treat. While I didn't use mine enough to know, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Mini Ultra Presidio

Dude if you like the Sage 1 get a sage 3, for a LONG time my mini-grip was my favorite knife, then I got a Sage 3 and it was all over for my mini-grips (I own 2). The Bolt lock functions closer to an Axis lock than any other similar lock, much closer than the BBL/CBBL. Now I love my BM's by all means and I'm not trying to turn you away from getting another but the Sage 3 is a great knife for us Axis lovers.

The 440c is stupendously tough. The mini presidio sharpens differently than the grip though. The grind on the presidio's blade is thinner than the grip's making for a really crazy slicer a la a full flat grind spydrrco blade. Others have said that benchmades treatment of their 440c is some of the best out there and o have no reason to doubt them.

Edge retention and ease of sharpening is splitting hairs with 154cm by and large. It comes down to wanting a longer squarish handle vs the grips shorter rounded handles.

The big thing with the mini presidio is that I felt nothing for it until it got in my hand. And that's when I realized that s lightly longer squarish handle feels better than the grips shortie rounded grip to me.

Go ahead and add a Grip to your stable if you want but if you have a Sage 1 I don't understand why you would choose to EDC the Grip over it. With all due respect to the venerable Grip, I view the Sage 1 as an ideal gentleman's folder. Carbon fiber, S30V, liner lock, buttery smooth action, good size for office duty, refined (some would say elegant) design... what's not to like?

I own a Sage 1, mini Grip, and Grip. The Sage 1 is the only one of the three in my regular EDC rotation.

I should also add that I have a hard time justifying the Grip at full MAP price. It was a good deal at around $85. At ~$100+ not so much. But then I still have a burr in my saddle around BM's pricing change. Not trying to bash BM in their own house but since they've chose to ignore their customer base I guess it doesn't matter, huh?
