Im going to be getting a new folder in the near future and I wanted to know what you guys thought would make the best rough use folder between these three. I really don't want company politics to be factored in to this because I have knives from all three and love them all.

I have tried all 3 . Go with the cold steel new all g10 handled recon 1, if you want a strong lock up , grippy handle which is comfortable, and a blade steel which will sharpen up easily, its the type of knife which gives you confidence in use. BY THE WAY STILL GOT RECON 1.

I would pick the grip. I'm a big fan of the Axis and I don't really like AUS 8.

Recon 1 PE Tanto. I too had all 3 including the older Recon. Wish I kept it as the price went sky high after Modern Warrior. Got rid of all the others and got a deal on the 2010 Recon 1 which I personally prefer over the old.

How would you say the recon 1 would stack up against a spyderco military, for refrence? Its the only one of these knifes I have not seen in person, although I haven't really had a chance to handle any of them.

Depends on what you mean exactly.

Both are excellent knives, but have different purposes.

Yeah, different locks, grind, steel etc. I'd be more inclined to rough up a Recon and keep the Mil as a slicer.

Both great knives. In England spyderco military 150.00 pounds, cold steel recon 75.00 pounds as a rough use knife I would use recon. What i would say is that military has faster deploying blade, but that could be my WRIST ACTION ?

I would definitely say that the Recon 1 is the toughest of the bunch, though the others are no weaklings. But the Recon 1 is built waaay tough.

The Military has far better blade Steel, the handle isnt as course of a texture. But the Recon 1 tri-ad lock is the strongest and most reliable, pretty much of any lock. I prefer the Recon Blade Geometry (Clip Point) over the military. But I am torn between the thumb stud over the hole. The weight is about an oz lighter on the military and overal length both open and closed are very similar. Blade length is identical. There is a choil on the military as well, it will help you choke up on it better. Toughness would have to go to the recon...mostly because of the lock.

A lot of this decision is personal on these 2 because they are far different designs, their blades are different shapes, the handles are different shapes, weight is different, steel is different. One note, Pocket clip can be an issue for the military doesnt have as many position for mounting as the Recon 1. Finally Cost, there is a big difference in cost! The Military is 2x the cost!

That Recon is going to be easy to sharpen, has the best grip ergos for me and the lock is substantial. The Griptillian would be next on my list if it's 154cm, the axis lock is like butter and the blade designs are as good as anyones, very sharp from the factory. The Endura imo is a great knife because of the full flat grind and blade material, out of the three it's thin profile overall would probably make it extremely comfortable as an EDC.

My druthers the BM and Recon 1 come down to personal feel for ergos, the Spydie would be the last out of three, I am hard on my knives though.

Recon it is. Thanks guys, I wan't to hate cold steel, but I just got my recon scout in the mail and I agree with nut'n, you may not like their marketing or company owner, but they provide awesome knives. If the recon 1 is half as good as im expecting it to be then im in for a treat. Thanks all.

if you are carrying it using the pocket clip, the grip. I have no opinion on the spyderco, but the CS knives I own are not friendly to clip carry.

As long as you not going to be prying or anything the endure will be awesome. There vg-10 is my favorite steel due to its edge retention and mainly rust resistance.

I'd take the Endura over the Griptillian any day. I felt the Grip was to thick for EDC pocket carry even though I did it for a year straight, traded the Griptillian off and haven't missed it. Can't comment on the Cold steel knife.

I felt exactly that way, until I started buying their products, now I even like Lynn Thompson, you can't have the sizzle without the steak baby...;)

Think of it this way. Benchmade, Spyderco, or Coldsteel.
Or USA, Japan, Taiwan.

There are really only two choices here the way I see it. I would rather spend the extra few dollars on a Spyderco or Benchmade any day of the week.

Would you spend extra because they are better or because where they were made? Other people say the recon 1 is great and tougher than the other two, so why?
