Griptilian or paramilitary 2?

So now that I have decided to carry 2 folders and a SAK I am ready for another knife. I would like to finally get a s30v blade. So my problem is which would be better out of the 2 that I have posted. I already have the standard grip so I would go with a custom one. However the para 2 is slightly cheaper and I do not own one yet. I know I will eventually get both but I'm craving a new knife. So what are your opinions? To me spyderco has always been great for EDC, however with the thinness of them I worry about the heavy use. Is the para2 as durable as the Grip? As far as self defense do you think the para2 will be a great tool? Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to make the best decision. Thanks for any and all replys.

I like the Grip but would take the Para 2 without hesitation: better ergos, handle material, better slicer, cheaper than a Grip built through BM's custom shop, etc.

I wouldn't worry about durability with the Para 2. It's very well-built and has an excellent lock (the compression lock). Unless you plan on prying with the tip of the blade, trying to stab it through a car door, or otherwise do silly stuff with it (;)), the relatively thin tip shouldn't be an issue.

I have both and like them both a ton. Although the Para sees more carry time, I view the Ritter Grip as better for camping. Here's a few photos with a couple others. More tip strength with the grip, but the para does fine for me. I'm thinking of seconds for both and will do the para 1st if that means anything.

If you do go with a Grip, I'd recommend the Ritter Grip, comes in S30V and has a higher better slicing grind. However I prefer the Para 2, though I do like the grip (Have an CPM-M4 Ritter Grip, and S90V Para 2). Both have super easy to manipulate locks, just pull the lock down and they will both gravity swing close or open, you can open and close both one handed, I also definitely prefer G10 handles to the hollow, plasticy grip handles. As for SD If limited to only a knife and not my Springfield XD, I'd want a fixed blade first, followed by a larger folder like the military, benchmade 710, the Benchmade AFCK (m390 version available at KW) or a zt 200.

Thanks guys for all the responses. rpn I really appreciate the comparison pics. So the ergonomics on the Para2 really are noticeably better? Besides the crappy jimping, I love the Grips feeling in hand.
I'm really not too concerned with the knife being used for self defense, I just notice that I feel underprotected when I carry my Delica or Ambitious. The size maybe? Thanks again for the great replys guys. Everyone here is extremely helpful and knowledgable.

These are both great knives with very practical blade shapes and excellent locks. I also do not like the feel of the handle on the full size Grip. It feels cheap and too big in pocket, very bulbous. The compression lock feels to me less likely to disengage by accident while working with the knife than the Grip's axis lock, but that is just me.

I have a standard Grip and a Para 2 and the Para 2 wins hands down. I ordered a Stretch, Endura FFG, and a Para 2 at the same time to update my knives. I would take any one of the three Spyderco knives over the Grip but the Para 2 is almost perfection. The Grip always reminds me its on my person as where I sometimes forget I even have one of the Spyderco knives on me. If the Grip is calling your name than get the Grip it is a great knife. I have the Grip with the modified sheeps foot blade and the spydy hole. The modified sheeps foot blade shape is excellent and one of my favorites.

I think I hear an echo... Para 2. Price aside, the Para wins in ergonomics, blade geometry and handle material. This is all in my opinion of course.

Another vote for the Para2. Feels like an extension of your hand rather than an object in your hand.

The Griptilian is a great folder and the axis is a dependable and fun lock to play with. That said, the Paramilitary is one of my all time favorite folder designs and I've owned custom folders worth over $700.

I EDC both, I abuse my griptillian because I dont feel it deserves the same treatment as my para 2 for some reason.
