Griptilian popularity

The only Benchhmade I own is the mini grip. I bought it with the intention of swapping the scales right away, I have had it about 5 months now and don't mind the stock scales at all, I am just starting to consider getting carbon fiber stocks to dress the knife up for more formal occasions. Even with the new pricing I would buy another, can't say enough good things about them.

I've been using AXIS BMs exclusively for going on 10 years now---never a problem with the springs or anything else for that matter------other than trying to keep myself from purchasing more AXIS BMs

Here is fusion of 551-1401 & RSK M390 (552-1401)

551.5-1401: RSK-REI : MFL Fusion

I'd have to disagree. Being that Im on the benchmade forum, I probably wont get much love for saying this. But honestly, with the new pricing, the grip line is getting into the 100 dollar area. At that price, you could get a Spydie Sage 1 with s30v and peel ply CF. Or for just a little more than that, a manix 2 s110v. Or for that matter, a blur in s30v. Or for $114 on the south american river retailer, I can get a zt 0566 with elmax....... So, yes the grip line is good, but not as good as it used to be considering the new pricing.......

Flame suit on.......

Grips are available on Ebay for around 70-80 dollars new. I bought my 553 for 77 bucks on ebay, a complete steal.

but you have a point. The grip is my favorite folder but it's also overpriced. At the price point, I would recommend newcomers to go with Spyderco S30V.

Plus the inconsistency of the axis lock. You just never know what's going to happen with these omega springs. I was looking into the Ritter and looked like a good knife, but I changed my mind with what seems to be unreliability or should I say unpredictability with the springs.

The 'unpredictability' is a fantasy. My father has a 10 year old 440C Griptilian and the springs have yet to fail.

But, AXIS lock is far better than BBL. Unfortunately, no other lock, even Arc lock or bolt lock works better than AXIS lock. For that, I am willing to pay extra as I want Ambedsextrus One Handed Open and Close feature.

Over many years and a lot of Axis-based models, never a broken spring. And if one did break I would be covered so no worries. Best part is from the most affordable Grip to the high end Gold class, the mechanism is the same with consistency throughout. I like that a lot, there's no learning curve.

Never had any problem so far in more than two years of daily use for the mini grips and over three field missions deployments for the Grip.
All terrains from sand to moist to mud. Just regular cleaning and oiling (sometimes even done with my field shampoo) still beating the hell out of them.
And what more marvelous e more I use them, the more they come slicker and smoother.

What else?
:)
