Griptilian: Yes or No?

Grips are just about the perfect EDC.

agreed. Specially if you add it some Wilkins:thumbup:

Here's my .02 on my 551: I think the design is great for EDC. I carry mine in a benchmade belt sheath. It's comfortable and relatively sturdy, feels good in the hand. Now here's why I'd never buy another one (fanboys bash away): I find the 154cm blade mediocre in terms of edge holding and ability to get really sharp. I throw it on the Lansky every now and then, but it never comes out great. I am a big fan of 154cm in other knives, just not this one. The scales look and feel flimsy, even though they are not weak at all. But the real kicker is that it is not a $90+ knife. I got mine for $60 a couple of years ago and I think even that is a stretch. I might consider one in a different blade steel if it was priced right. Also, I use mine for multiple purposes (household EDC, boxes, rope, etc, plus use it while deer and hog hunting).

Yeah, for the price, I'd rather pick up a spyderco paramilitary. Or an Endura/Delica for half the price, and probably same value. Compared to the Endura, the Endura has better steel (IMO), roughly the same handles (both plasticy, budget handles), and is only lacking the lock, which is down to preference (AXIS vs Back lock). All for almost half the price of a griptillian.

I've been using a 550 Griptilian for a few years (154CM blade) and have no complaints about it. I've been meaning to pick up a couple more, just to try out different models. I haven't abused it, but I did use it often at the ranch where knives certainly get pushed more than in regular urban use.

So I've been wanting a gripi for some time now. I customized one on Benchmade's website and it's pretty sexy. I want to know how dependable the knife is for edc. It won't be going through hard abuse. Pros? Cons? Do you guys have a gripi? Pics? Is it worth it?

i have a benchmade 550 and i really like it. i find it to be a very good EDC blade.

here's the thing: a standard 550 or 551 is about $80-$85 from online retailers, you'll be spending $125+ to get your custom colors, which is fine. just know for that price you can buy a benchmade mini onslaught or a spyderco para2.

I have said it before (and will probably say it again) but I think the cheap feel people talk about is just the fact it is lighter than one would expect.

I like the fact it is not flat handled, too bad so may of the custom handles are also flat, not that I opposed to the stock ones.

Do folks like the M4 consideribly more than D2?

the fairly light weight plastic handle may give some people the impression of "cheap", but the fact is griptilian's are solid knives.

i personally like both D2 and M4. M4 is a better steel.

I have used a plain Jane model heavily for several years. It is still in great condition! I would recommend it highly.

I own five Grips, four folders and one fixed, and they're great knives. If I have to gripe about something, it's the overall thickness of the handles in my pocket, but that's not enough of an issue for me to stop using or owning them. If anything, the thickness makes them fit my hand better.

So, yes!

I have a mini and regualar, def get one! specifically a custom one, from what I've seen, the cstom versions are extra perfect! Mine was amazing, for lockup, sharpness, speed/smoothness, etc. get one and enjoy!

Been carrying a full size grip for over a year and a half everyday as my primary go to EDC. Comes out to play everyday holds an edge respectably for the old 440 stainless anyway. I keep it sharp on the edgepro and it does really well. Other knives come and go from my pocket as a secondary according to the whim of the day but never leave without the grip. My two cents is get one, use it, you will love it.

I personally love the mini-grip. Some complain about the plastic handles, but I think it fits it perfectly.

Get one. I personally wouldn't get a custom one unless I was going to get some whacked out color combo which I wouldn't anyway. Like a previous poster said, you could the $130 towards a different knife. I have to say that the snake scales in the photo previously posted are stunning.

Well thanks to keyman's pictures of his thin blue mini, I had to order a mini of my own! I ordered a plain 556 with black handles but I plan to ditch those for some homemade g10. So I say get one!
