Griptillian with thumbhole & black flatground blade

This sheepsfoot blade is one of my favorite that Benchmade has done, I'm glad it's still available.

That's good to hear. I've been thinking about getting a 555 and giving it a try. I never use to pay much attention to them, but for some reason over the last 6 months or so, I've been really drawn to them...

I was looking for a black blade & I'm unfamiliar with Benchmade's model nomenclature. shuutr guided this amateur pirate to the exact model I was looking for. ;)

Congratulations! Glad you found what you were looking for. If you decide you want any options that are not available on the production model you can follow the link I included in post #7 to Benchmade's custom-build. Some of the options that are available:

- Sheepsfoot Blade with a thumb-Hole , Drop-point, or Tanto style blade :)
- Black or Satin color blade :)
- Plain or serreted edge
- Choice of blade steel - 154CM, S30v, D2, N680
- Choice of colors for handle scales, screws, and liners

Choose the Bold options and you will have the 550BK Griptilian HG Model ;). Follow the link below to see all the "retail production" options available to you. The black blade, sheepsfoot version is at the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I overlooked the thumbhole on the sheepsfoot with the customs. The reason for me trying to find out if it was a production model, though, is it'll be cheaper.

However, I wish a thumbhole came with the drop point. That would be my preference.

It would have to be a sheeps foot. I have a Cabela's OD green and an all black 556 in D2. To me the MDP is the best blade shape, second only to the Ritter.

I love my 550, its a pain that Cabelas won't ship to the uk my collection is missing a D2 grip :(

Not a Grip, but flat ground with a sheepfoot-ish blade, thumb hole and G10 handles. Not sure why these weren't more popular, it's a fantastic heavy duty knife that will slice with the best of them:

The MDP is a great blade design. I haven't tried a Ritter yet, or a Sheepsfoot
