Grizzly 2x72 Belt Grinder

Chilszplay, there are alot of knifemakewrs here in CA. Contact one of them and see if they will let you visit their shop. then you can look at equipment first hand...

I've been considering getting a Grizzley with a 10" wheel, but the manual says

"If you use the optional Model G9242 10 drive wheel, you need to use a sanding belt that is longer than the included 72" belt" .

Does anyone have experience with he 10" wheel? Would I need to find special belts, or is there a minor modification you can do to the machine to allow 72" belts?

BJ, no mods are needed for the 10" wheel. The tension arm is adjustable and easily accomodates the larger wheel.

A coote with motor is going to cost as much as the no weld grinder if your resourceful. The NWG would be a better choice.Grizzly sells that 10" wheel for 64 bucks.

Use a magnet to hold your blade and you can hollow grind on the 8" wheel.

then you can use a grizzly 10" wheel on your NWG:D

How did you adapt the Grizzly contact wheel for use in the NWG?

Thanks

Old thread but you either have to have the grizzly wheel machined to install bearings in it, or use a pillow block setup with the shaft solid in the wheel, and allowed to rotate in the pillow block bearings.

I use a grizzly. I recommend getting a ceramic platen to go over the steel if you want to keep things flat. It is a good grinder for the money and the costumer service is good in my experience. The only downside for me is the belt tracking isn't as good as the more expensive machines.
