I got the Grizzly G1015 recently the graphite shoe was the only fault I can find with the machine, flakes are all over the place! Should I use Ceramic tile or Tempered Glass to replace the graphite, 1/4 x 2 x 9" piece on the platen? I could use some advise on this. Thank you!

Get the plate from Elles. It's great. Makes a huge difference! A Grizzly is no KMG or Bader, buy I like mine. I used JB Weld to secure it to the platen, by the way.

I was just looking for one also. I love my Grizzly. Make sure you make little air filters for the motor or use a dust collector system.

Thanks guy's, just a little tip for everyone...DO NOT STICK A KNIFE IN THE GRIZZLY BUFFER! JUST TRUST ME! I just got 6 stitches in the right hand between my thumb & index finger...and 5 on my left thumb. Several other small cuts on right hand. Yes I followed the instructions and was holding it the right way...no gloves on or it would have been worse. It just grabed the blade and away she went! lol

Yep, buffer is the most dangerous tool in the the shop. Always treat it like you're handling a live rattler.

I hated that graphite platen on the grizzly. Two knife profiles later, I had a nice horizontal groove in the platen. Readjusted the rest, and had a nice new horizontal groove a few days later.

I swapped to the ceramic platten from Ellis, and it works great. I used two part epoxy to put it on. Still wish I could afford a KMG. The grizzly definately has its ups and downs.

The buffer on the grizzly has to use a good quality SEWN muslin wheel. No loose wheels. I use up to an 8"x1" wheel and never smaller than a 6". Hope you heal okay. Also build your self a shaft guard for it so nothing gets wrapped around it. Good luck.

Think my hands will heal just fine, no major damage right hand keeps leaking a lot though, lol.
I was using one of those sewn yellow 6" wheels not the quality sewn with lots of rows of stitches like i think you ment. This one spreads out as you pusk into it quite a bit. that might have grabbed the blade on me.
Think next time I'm gona clamp the Blade to a 2 foot 1 x 2 and stick it in the wheel... keep my distance, lol.
