all it took was a lovejoy coupling, some angle iron, and a few 25 thousandth motor base shims.

VARIABLE SPEED ROCKS!!!!!

That is really good thinking....no bearing side load and more mass in the "spin train". Excelent mod.

thanks Stacy, it really works well, shimming it in for alignment I only needed 2 shims, its like they were made to go together, also I now have a disc sander

That's awesome. I have been brainstorming on how to do a small wheel attachment. So far I think a Wilmont style would work. You would have to attach a bracket to hold the tooling arm, and lower the tracking wheel as far down as possible

I've been thinking the same thing Shane, also a flat platen mod I saw on another thread looks really awesome.

I'm also considering how I could incorporate the grinder in a box into this set up.

check Craigslist for shopsmith, they show up regularly for a few hundred bucks.

Ha, I've been thinking about that same setup for a platen. I'll bet it would help with the tracking issues with the grizzly.

I haven't really had any tracking issues with mine, there's no wobble and the adjustment knob seems to work well. it did start acting up one time, but I found that the riser pole was loose and had twisted out of line. after I brought it back in line and tightened it down it straightened right up.
