Grizzly Height Guage/Scribe question

I received my 6" Grizzly height Guage/scribe. The little brass colored flat spring with a bent hook on each end was loose in the box. I figured out it goes behind the micro height adjuster piece and the mount the dial indicator is on, on the lock screw side.

I have it in place, but the micro adjuster only works to raise the scribe, and will not move it downward when turned the other way. I am assuming I have it installed wrong? Is the flat spring supposed to be bound by the tiny set screw on the lower portion, right above the thumb screw?

It's certainly useable as is, as long as I don't overshoot a bit and need to make a small downward adjustment. Any advice would be appreciated. I bought it through Amazon Prime and am tempted to return it and get another.

In order to raise and lower with the micro adjuster the lock screw has to be tight

I can take some close up pictures of mine if it will help you out

Thanks John. Which lock screw needs to be tight? The one on the micro adjuster or the little lock screw on the lower mount part?

the micro adjuster screw will only move so far in either direction , basically it needs to be in a center position to move the main body up or down . And the micro set lock screw is the one to tighten . Does this make sense ?

I may have a different one than you as I do not remember any springs . I need to go look .

Thanks Guys! I have it working like it should now, thanks to your help.

The spring I was referring to is a flat piece of what looks like brass, when it was loose it has a gentle curve to it, like a leaf spring, and it has a slight hook on each end. It looks like when the screw on the micro adjust is tight, it's actually that piece of brass, with the hook engaged in the lower part, that is causing the lower part to move.

I have the new Esteem and VFD all set up and operational. I just picked up my Bubble Jig at the mail box (thanks Fred), and FedEx is supposed to deliver our first order of steel from Aldo today. Anxious to get started.

On Edit: John, what part of Michigan are you in? I was born on the UP. I am planning a motorcycle ride back to where I was born on my way to the east coast this summer. I am guessing from your sig line that you must ride as well?

there is a piece like you described but looks copper to me . It is in the top of the piece that holds the scribed itself on to the lift arm . I will check again
