Does anyone here use this model G9645 for about $800, and if so can you reply with some feedback? Seems to be the most affordable out there but don't know the accuracy.

I have had one for a little over a month and use it regularly.
Mine is very consistent in the readings, but is 2 points low, every time.
Adding 2 points is not hard, but I would prefer it to be zeroed and nothing I adjust changes that reading.
I think it is a very good unit for the price, but will be on the lookout for a Wilson in the future.

Is the reading off 2 points on any hardness that you test? Have you tested steel that is a low rc and a higher? If it's straight 2 low then annoying for sure, but if it's not linear then at varied rc levels you would be guessing. Have you contacted grizzly about this?

Hi Chris For your hardness tester reading low. I would pull the diamond penetrator out and inspecting it for damage with a lope. Often low reading is do to a bad diamond tip. Possible over looked when shipped out. Also you should be able to move the bezel on the to adjust over by two points to help if set your 2 points.

this Rockwell 3js is avail for $375. Can prob buy it for $300. Is that fair price? How do I know if it's calibrated properly? Are these things usually consistent?

If memory serves me correctly the 3JS is a superficial tester and does not have the weight to do the Rockwell C scale, which is what we want. Correct me if I wrong here guys, but that is about the right price for a superficial. The industrial quality testers that go to C scale usually sale for several thousand new and go for around 1000-1500$ used when I see them.

whoah good to know Augus, guess I better do some research. It's sold either way.

I have had the Grizzly for several months now. Mine was initially off like BigChris's, but I adjusted it and it now indicates within <0.5 points on 4 different test blocks. I purchased a used Ames off ebay prior to this one, but in showed up inoperative. New costs more, but fewer headaches in the end IMHO. Couldn't find a used made-in-USA tester locally or would have considered that. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the Grizzly.
