Has anyone ever used the motor from a treadmill for the drive motor for a grinder? They are DC powered so speed control is fairly simple. They can even be reversed. I have seen a drill press set up with one and the tool seemed to have good power even at very low RPM. I am looking at a Coote grinder and I wonder if this would be a good option. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, G

You should probably use a TEFC [totally enclosed fan cooled] motor with a grinder. The dust it puts out will get inside a vented motor and it could have a come apart.

The short answer is yes. A few months ago we saw a thread by someone who did just what you are describing. As noted, it is not an enclosed motor, so it will be prone to problems/failure as the metal dust accumulates in the motor.
