Grohman #3

Hey Ken, forgot to ask...how do you like that Hemp Tilley?

I love mine but the T3 is still my favourite!

I like my hemp one better then my synthetic. I just like the feel of it and the fact that it is naturally wrinkle/crease free. As for waterproofness, the synthetics are better. The hemp, in a real soaking will eventually bleed through. But in the end, as I said I like they way this one feels. It has enough weight to let me know its there, but it isn't too heavy like tin cloth. Also looks pretty spiffy I think.

Hey Guys..

Good Thread kgd

Here's some of my Grohmanns

Hi,

I was fortunate to have visited the factory in Pictou a few weeks ago, and picked these up:

Wow, Fonly. That's pretty neat. Do you have any pics? I have certainly thought about that while looking at my sabre-ground Ghrommans. Seems like it would be a fairly straightforward procedure.

Hmm. I might have a project for next weekend ...

All the best,

I believe there are only two or three people in Nova Scotia that I am not related to in one way or another.
I've been on the Bluenose several times but it has been a while.
I really should own a Grohmann.

I think all the guys who work on The Bluenose wear the #3 Yachtsman. Can-Fact of the day. The #3 was designed for our Canadian troops. It is imho a masterpiece. The weight, balance, penetration, easy of sharpening, toughness, triangular handle and ridges so no slipping when wet, lanyard hole so no way its taken away from you makes it an ideal tactical and survival blade. Mine is never far from hand or from heart. Some may say it's too small for a camp knife but that's why mine always teams up with a small forest axe. Spitting wood etc with a knife is just bad for it and not very effective. How big is this wood you are splitting? Not 12 inch rounds to be sure and small sticks don't need splitting. Splitting wood with a hatchet can be a hazard. Chopping down trees with a hatchet is a pain-in-the-ass. A razor sharp knife and a razor sharp 2lb axe will together allow you to do anything and everything you could possibly need to do. Forget about chopping, hacking and spitting with a camp-knife. Buy an axe too and learn how to use it! I can backpack from here to eternity carrying the weight of these 2 small items. Smaller is sometimes better. Cheers!

I've always liked the unique look of the Grohmanns. Intriguing, yet ... I've never actually held one to see if I liked it.

Even that one time I ended up in Nova Scotia for a couple of days by accident...

Now that should be a survival story...

Cool!
Would love to see a pic of that as i might attempt that mod myself!
I recently won a used No.3 on Ebay. $13!
Would have gone for more but the seller didn't clean it at all before taking their pics. Silly seller but hey it worked out for me! lol.
10 minutes with some tissue and nevr-dull revealed a very nice knife!
