Lately I have been thinking about getting a Grohmann, specifically a #3 with carbon steel, flat ground, and a red micarta handle.

Does anyone out there have any experience, good or bad, with Grohmanns? This would be used as a general camp knife.

Thanks!

That would be exactly my choice of Grohman exactly. They are a nice design, but I am not crazy about their stainless steel. The carbon is good!

I have 2 Grohman #1's with black micarta handles. One SS with the standard grind and the other is carbon with the flat grind. Both have been good knives. The flat grind is thin, but cut real nice.

I've got a #3, but it's stainless. I really like it. It's a comfortable design, and it takes a pretty wicked edge. I've always wanted to try out one of the carbon ones, so let us know what it's like. ;)

LeeCQC, is that an OnScene/Tactical sheath? I was thinking of getting one of those for it, too.

wackafew, I was wondering if the flat grind would be too thin - I guess you haven't had any problems with it?

Thanks

It is a very thin. So it kinda depends on what you use it for. My wife likes it in camp for food prep. It a good slicer.

Oh forgot to say my #1 SS field dressed four deer last season before I touch up the edge. But the carbon is good also.

I love my grohmann's, #4,#3 and a large skinner in ss with a normal grind are great user's, so flat grind in carbon would be awesome! :D

I personally have big hands, and find it kinda small, in other words a BK7 its a great fit for me, as is the grip on the master hunter.

Grohmann knives rule. I own the no. 1, 2, 3, and 4 models, and have used all of them extensively. The boat knife doesn't have my favorite handle design, but it's still comfortable. I own a no. 2 in carbon steel, and it is one of the best all-around outdoors knives in my collection.

All the best,

- Mike
