Grohmann knives

I finally got around to try potassium permanganate on stag.

In a couple of posts above I related my disappointment when the stag on my Grohman #2 developed an ugly green coloration over time.
After thoroughly cleaning it the dark accent on the stag had disappeared leaving behind a rather dull shade of brown.

I treated my 3 stag Grohmann knives and I am very pleased how they all turned out. I "sealed" the new colors with a couple coats of nitrocellulose lacquer (Watco)

Wow, nicely done CelloDan CelloDan !

Out of curiosity, how do you find their stainless steel? Does it feel soft and gummy, or does it hold a decent edge?
Gracias :)

A few years ago when I bought my first Grohmann I searched for reviews regarding the stainless steel they use.
I found mixed opinions.
Some folks felt that it is hard to sharpen, hard to "apex" and difficult to get a burr and overall did not like the steel.
Many others disagreed.
I myself have not used them much except for light food prep here and there, cut a rope or open a box so it's hard to for me to say.
I had not issues sharpening them.

They do have a following in Canada. At one point one of their model was a standard issue knife for the Canadian Armed Forces.

Ray Mears, a british outdoorsman and nature filmmaker used to be a fan of the the slimline folder
I am pretty sure he is using it in this video:

A crazy canuck lol youtuber "The Wooded Beardsman" is a big fan of them. The dude has used them to clean and eat every type of living creature from Texas to Alaska lol

Nice improvements on the Stag, Dan!! Most imported stag has been treated with PP, and it is responsible for enhanced coloration as well as disinfection!!
Gracias Charlie :)

CelloDan CelloDan super work, and now the Stag is enhanced for future ageing

Does anybody have that link to the 'tutorial' on using potash dye? I need to enrich my Lloyd.

Thanks, Will

Thanks Will, here is one of the tutorial threads. I just added some content to it.
