As Grohmann is a Canadian company perhaps most of you folks won't know it.

Anyways, its not seeming to hold an edge. Does anyone else have this problem or did I just get a lemon?

Moved to Maintenance to talk about sharpening.

Grohmann comes up now and again. I have the boat knife, myself. I can't say much about sharpening it since I used it in the kitchen for a long time and rarely even steeled the edge.

You may have raised a burr, which flops around when you use the knife. Is that bird & trout yours? it may be the best slicer they make.

na, I know to strop the burr away. I can get my delica hair shaving sharp now...

I'd send them a letter - they'll probably want the knife back. Company's been in business awhile and has a very good rep, but everyone turns out a dud from time to time. Better yet, take a trip to Pictou and personally have it inspected - its a beautiful town.

i think hh is rigth, you got one with a bad heat treat or something. if you want to test it, take a small fine file and see if it cuts the edge back by the ricasso. if it does then its probably too soft to take a good edge.

I have a few Grohman knives in carbon steel and like them very well. Is yours carbon or SS ?

I'm also inclined to believe it's a wire edge. Sometimes (oftentimes) stropping won't remove them. Especially on some of the more ductile steels. I use a flat ceramic hone to clean most of them up.

Touch base with the company and see what they say. My Grohmann knives have always performed well and taken a keen edge, but it is possible that your knife is a lemon. That scenario is quite rare with a company like Grohmann. They have been around since Hector was a pup and will make things right for you.

Thanks guys :) I'll try the file trick and then I will contact grohmann themselves!
Im just doing camping stuff with it. Occasional big game, cooking, wood etc.
