Hey all. I'll be getting hitched in the spring of 2015 and I'm planning on giving knives to my four groomsmen along with pennies that I'm having a friend make into either lapel pins or tie clips. The question is WHAT KNIVES? Initially I was thinking older ones that I can spruce up so each one will be unique (and not hurt my pocket so much in these penny pinching times) but now I'm on the fence with getting them new matching ones. For that route the most obvious pick, in my opinion, would be peanuts.
They're not Not knife guys(one of them is my sister) but none of them have anything "fancy". My buddies, who are brothers, usually carry some kinda flipper knife, the one admits he loses knives pretty regularly and that's why he hasn't bought a nice traditional. They also have a pair of nice Damascus fixed blades that their dad made for them which are real beauts but don't get carried or used. The other has a bunch of assorted cheap knives but I'm pretty sure he usually carries one of those razor blade folders. And my sister isn't into knives, but I'm sure she'd appreciate one. I am leaning toward stainless because everyone lives in humid upstate ny, but I have faith they can be responsible if I go for 1095 or whatnot. My budget will probably be around a hundred each, tops.

Have any of you knife nuts done this for your best buddies on your wedding day? If so, what did you choose?

Me, I'd go with smaller GEC knives. They'll be more unique than a peanut. Sure, they're more expensive, but not that much. You could either get all the same handle material, or different ones. I'd probably pick a smaller knife like a Pemberton, Conductor or Esquire, and I'd likely consider stainless as well, unless your groomsmen are knife guys... Congratulations!

Depends on how many groomsmen. My brother gave us all leatherman tools which was cool.
Maybe a Case peanut would be nice and affordable. They come in many colors too.

GEC knives would be awesome if you can swing it.

I dunno what I gave my groomsmen. The events of 30 years ago are lost in the mists of time. Or at least the mists of my brain.

If I were on a budget, I'd go with the SAK approach. Lots of options as to how much it would cost. A second benefit of SAKs is that even non-knife folk don't mind receiving them.

Not sure on your budget, but when I was young and got married I did the same thing. Money was tight as we just got a house, dog, fence, paying off college and now some of the wedding costs. I had 6 groomsmen and they weren't big knife guys like I was, so I spent about $30 each on some Buck knives. If I would have had fewer guys to buy for, I would have spent a little more.

GEC makes great knives but they get a premium. The lower cost versions run around low/mid $70. The Case Medium Stockmans are pretty classic designs and can be had for around the mid $40 range and in a ton of scale/color patterns. Victorinox has some great designs with knives AND bottle openers. What's better than beer and blades?!

Just a few options, but congratulations. Wish I would have gotten knives for gifts the numerous times I was a groomsman. I have a cabinet full of mugs instead.

When I got married we only had three groomsmen so I bought knives specific to the Individual person. One got a ZT 350, one a Spyderco PM2 and the last a Buck Alpha Hunter Boone and Crockett with Elk Scales.

Case makes a mother of pearl small stockman packaged as a wedding gift in a tin. Kind pricey at $100+ but I don't know what you are looking for or what your price range is.

My personal call would be to go with Vic silver Alox Cadets with their initials engraved in the space on the back. I've received some fairly useless groomsman gifts in the past, and the Cadet would have been superior to the money clips, keychain fobs, cigarette lighters, and business card holders that are the typical sort of thing.

Another vote for the alox SAKs and they even have a little engraving area where you can put everyone's initials for that personal touch.

I'm getting married in July and have been planning on going the Alox Cadet route with their initials engraved on the back.

The esquires are a sure front runner. I'd love to get my sister the pink abalone. Haven't seen that anywhere but on the GEC site, are they all sold off? I also won't be able to start buying these anytime soon either, got that ring to pay off first!

If your budget is around $100 each I'd go for a GEC for sure. Maybe the new GEC #47 Viper? I'm getting married in 4 months & I'm doing the same thing but my budget is closer to $35 each & none of them are knife addicts but they do all carry knives. Unfortunately they are all modern folder guys so I'm either going to get them a modern or try to convert them to real knives with character & class. :)

Jk, convert, convert, convert! The knives are going to be something that will make them think of you! Lend them some of your style! I understand the budget, but watch out with cheap knives. My buddy Joey received a cheap as a groomsman, had it about a year before the blade snapped(he was probably abusing it) and within a month his friends had filed for divorce! All his fault..;)

Within my budget would be either a Case medium stockman or Texas jack which would both be nice quality knives that could last forever if taken care of. :) Also considering a Buck stockman in that price range but like the idea of bone on the Case options. You have some very nice options in your price range for sure! Queen & Canal Street would also be a couple more options for you to check out.
