I'm getting married in a few months and plan to give my groomsmen an engraved knife as a gift. I've narrowed it down to the CRKT Drifter or Buck Nobleman. None of the groomsmen is a knife nut. Just curious which of the two you all thought would be better.

Also, now considering the SAK Solo Alox.

Price is about equal based on my research.

If I were you, I'd give my posse Vic Pioneers with Alox handles...

- roughly in the same price range
- more versatile
- not scary-looking at all
- Swiss made
- all metal construction
- has a blank space on the back for engraving

+! on the SAK as they might use it more. On your choice i would go with drifter or a SS Spyderco bug series.

Don't have either, but Bucks are generally better built than CRKTs and generally made in the USA, vs. China for most CRKTs. I would definitely go Buck.

SAK Solo might be another way to go. I've got one and love it and they're a bit cheaper.

The other Idea is to find out what they do or use a knife for. Don't have to be a knife nut to use a knife. Do any fish or hunt like to cook? I sent my son alot of different knives for his groomsmen and pick out the type that fit them. They all loved there knives.

I'm looking to keep it around $20 per knife so I can combine it with another gift too.

Most work in office environments, so no real outdoorsy situations and I doubt it would be used as a kitchen knife. With that in mind, I lean slightly more toward the SAK.

I bought my groomsmen all a small, SS, Buck lockback, single blade, maybe 2 3/4 ". Don't remember the model though. had their names engraved on them, came out real nice, and they were a big hit. My Brother in Law still carries his daily, for 25 years! Funny story....I gave the gifts out at the fancy restaurant where we had the Reception Party, and my Best Man proceeded to slice his hand open playing with his new Knife at the table.
Everyone was silent as he sat there bleeding on the linen tablecloth, and my Dad broke the silence by deadpanning... " Well, lets just be glad he didn't get you a Gun"
Good luck and happiness on your Marriage.

+1 for the Alox SAK (model to be decided).
If ur choice is limited to one of those 2 knives, I will go with the Buck.

I'd go with the SAK Alox as well. The SAK is one of the most non-knife folk friendly designs and the Alox Pioneer feels substantial in the hand. It offers tools that your buddies will probably use on a regular basis and it can turn a non-knife knut into one. Just out of curiosity, what are you engraving? I would suggest engraving something small like their initials. Don't engrave your wedding date.

I went with knives for my Groomsmen as well, but I bought them knives that fit their lifestyles. My Best Man works in a retail store and needs to use a knife all the time to cut off tags, open boxes, and a dozen other small cutting chores. He also needed something small and non-intimidating so I got him a Bradley Alias II with the blue anodized handle. My Brother In-Law is a State Trooper so I figured he needed something tough and strong that would hold an edge so I got him a Spyderco Gayle Bradley. My buddy Mike doesn't really need a knife and has never carried one, but he always likes to check mine out so I got him something that is simple and good looking, but can stand up to some use if need be. I ended up getting him a Spyderco Sage I and he loves it and started carrying it on him all the time. My other buddy, J, duffed on me at the last minute so I'm glad I never ordered his knife because I he's a Chef and I was looking into getting him a custom Murray Carter.

If it were between the CRKT and the Buck, I would say Buck. Even though the Nobleman isn't USA made, I think it is a much more recognizable brand to most non knife people

Just one more thing...u mentioned that ur groomsmen are no knife nuts. Maybe it would be better to give them an Alox Pioneer, cause it might convince them to carry it daily for the "non blade" uses (screwdriver, bottle opener, etc), while the solo blade (which I personally own and love) is just a blade and that might keep them from carrying it, if that's what u wish for.
If it has to be just a gift, something they keep home to remind them of ur wedding, then the alox solo blade is ur answer.

I was planning on going with initials, simple and easy.

Nice knives you got your groomsmen.
