Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, but I've been reading for a while. I know the "which knife should I get my groomsmen" thread has been posted a bunch of times, but I figured I'd throw my case out there.
I'm looking to get 5 knives for my grooms men - trying to keep it around $50 and one for my best man - around $100-$150 (maybe one for myself too...).
Only problem is they are all living in different states (MA, CT, ME, NH) so I have to work around some different carry laws (I'm in NH so I can get whatever I want)
I was thinking something without an assisted open and I don't know how much I want to sacrifice blade size, probably nothing too much over 3", preferably a plain edge.
Also no SAK's or multi-tools, I've already gotten a nice Alox SAK and a Squirt as groomsmens gifts from two of these guys.
I was looking at Ritter-Grips for my bestman (and myself), thought about mini-grips for the groomsmen, but the price is a little over budget.
You guys always seem to have good ideas.
Any thoughts?

Thanks
-Scott

How's about the Spyderco Dragonfly 2? Or a couple of nice Case folders in the Baby Doc pattern? Edit: The Baby Doc pattern is available in several different colours and handle materials--each groomsman could have a different one.

Great idea, though! I'm sure they will appreciate whatever you choose! Good luck and congrats! :)

At my 2nd wedding (2005), my best man (an LEO in my department) received a Spyderco Endura. My wife's teenaged nephews (also groomsmen) received a SAK, a Browning folder and a Buck folder.

The knife chouces were based on personalities and occupations. The oldest of my wife's nephews was headed to college, and I figured the SAK would suit him best. The other two nephews are hunters. My best man, well...it should be obvious.

The kershaw skyline would be a great knife for this. at around 35 bucks, it is just an amazing value, is right around 3 inches, goes in the pocket very well, and is generally a very nice knife. for the more expensive knife, I would go for a spyderco paramilitary or manix 2.

Putting your friends through that.. They deserve custom made knives.:D

Seriously, I get something engraved.

I always wondered about giving knives as gifts to groomsmen, heck giving gifts in general (when anyone in my family got married the only people who got gifts where the newly weds; might be an ethnic difference i'm mexican o.O) my votes for something buck! maybe 110 or 112 i'd like that gift very much if i was a groomsman

My vote would be an alox Swiss Army knife. The silver one looks pretty classy but they've got other colors. If that's too cheap, you can get something else but they are attractive, handy and cool.

Buy 'em all CRKT Drifters and have their name engraved on each one.

I gave buck nobleman and a mini version to each of my groomsman and a Chive and leek to my best man...but then again I am cheap. The way I see it most people are not knife people so anything better than 420HC is a waste on most.

I would consider the Leatherman Skeletool, especially since it now is obtainable in several colors..

Cheers,
Serge

Why not ESEE Izulas? You can get them in several colors and are within your specified budget.

Depends on how well you know your buddies. If they are all knife guys, a one-hander such as an Ontario RAT 1 will be well received. If they are non-knife guys, you might find that a traditional design such as an SAK or a nice Case pocket knife is the way to go.

Even if they are not knife guys, I guess u should give them something more "classic" to remind them of ur wedding. If they are knife guys, they would probably appreciate a classic choice too.
So since the alox SAK is out of the game (it would have been my first option), I think that a Buck, a Case, or an Opinel, with something engraved (date of ur wedding?) could all be a nice keepsake.
If u are looking into something more modern (so to speak), my vote goes for the Spyderco Dragonfly.

SS Dragonfly, engraved with the big date. They are ultimately useful- they even make great money clips.
