The Groove is awesome. No wrist action required. Push the flipper straight in rather than pulling down on it. The blade will fly out faster than any AO.

If you can get one at a good price (which you often can) I'd go with the Avalanche. You get S30V, a very soildly built knife with one of the hottest torsion bars on any Speedsafe knife and some of the grippiest G10 ever. The real bonus is that you don't see alot of them.

when did the avalanche switch to s30v? I know it was 440A for a long time then switched over to 13c26.

just checked the site: avalanche is indeed now under production with s30v. But if you order one you'll probably get 440A or 13c26, and they changed the blade shape, it no longer sports the unsightly holes along the top.

Thomas, did the avalanche's twin brother blackout get the s30v switch as well?

My sources say the Avalanche was originally S60V (440V), and then switched to S30V (this is the same steel progression as the Boa).

No Avalanche in 440A or 13C26 that I can determine.

The Avalanche really isn't much of a twin to the Blackout...really has it's own style and a higher price point than the Blackout...perhaps you're thinking of the Whirlwind with the same handle style as the Blackout, and an almost identical blade profile but with the addition of stylistic holes...

Bottom line, they're all fine knives! :D

Ray :)

Ah, it was the whirlwind that I was thinking of. silly me.:rolleyes:

Bookworm...hope you didn't think I was trying to put you on the spot...:o

I'm hopelessly obsessive-compulsive when it comes to details...:D

Ray :)

I'm generally the one who catches the small stuff like that. I could've sworn the whirlwind was the avalanche. oh well, one more note to file away.
