Groove Warden Revisited

Not too long ago, I decided to mod the handles on my Fire Warden to make them a little more grippy. Unfortunately at the time, I couldn't remove the rivets, so they got ground down when I filed the grooves in the G-10.

Well, I finally got around to removing the rivets. I decided to replace them with brass since I think they look good with the red G-10. I may eventually replace them with tube rivets again, but I think it looks good for now. :D

Looks great!!

What did you use to create the grooves? Also, where did you get the brass hardware? Size?

I used a couple small round files for the grooves. Since it's my knife, and a daily EDC, I just eyeballed the spaces.I wasn't too concerned if they were a little uneven. The hardware is a few 8-32 brass countersink screws, cut down to the proper size.

The brass tube inserts were harder to find. I came across them at a local hardware store. They were called "rubber tube stop fasteners". They were pretty much molded into these rubber tubes that I had to cut and sand away to get the piece I wanted. I'll try and get a pic of one in a bit.

I'm just a sucker for the handle on the BIBB. This is a little more extreme, but that's what gave me the idea. :p

That's the Eu style handle :D my favorite knives have those! Probably why your GW looks so cool to me!

Knife in one of Leatherman's HRLM sheaths from the rat store, until I get my new one that I ordered from Dave at Buy Brown.

Also, a pic of the brass tube fastener thing before I removed the rubber coating.

That looks nice. If you are feeling adventurous, you might try making the grooves offset from each other, like shown here:

I bet that would look pretty cool on a modded GW.

Thanks for the replies everybody

Rick, that's pretty cool looking. Those are how my rivets looked before I replaced them. I like that design. I've thought of a couple different things to do if I decide to mod any more handles. :D

I like the screw n-post fastners also, but.................. you could have lined the slots up:barf:
