Hey Guys...

Well I've successfully hollow ground out my first two knives today!!
I'm so Excited I could just Spit...

The first knife is just a short kiradashi about 2.25" long and the grind is just perfect on it.. Lines are nice and crisp and even to the edge.

The second a Wharncliff with about a 3.5" blade.. I got a bit of a wobble and 2" mark at the tip which I'm trying to get out but I'm not exactly sure how to do it..However I'am feeling the Groove,, which is the first time I've Really experienced the groove.. Now I know what everyone has been saying about feeling it!!!

I can't tell you how much of a hurdle this has been for me to actually get into that groove.

I've had my grinder for two years, and not feeling the groove has been my Number 1 setback. I feel now that I've got it,, it's unlocked the door to the next level...

Both a Chilsel ground out of 01, and will hopefully be HT by Wally Hayes when he gets back some time next week...

I didn't take alot of time on the profile of the knife as I just want to get this grinding down.. I will continue to chisel grind on the left until I'm comfortable with it. Then I'll switch over and chisel grind the right, until mastered..

When I've got both sides down, I'll attempt my first double sided hollow ground knife...

I figure a couple hundred feet of steel and I'll be well on my way... LOL

Anyway,, I just had to tell you guys about it...

2 Knives and I'm already a Steel Dust Junky!!! :)

My wife told me tonight that I Stink from Grinding..
I'll take that as a Compliment and say..

Yes I do ! :)

I just came back in from the Shop and I Shouldn't have touched that wharncliff(bottom knife).. I slipped and jumped the Groove.. Frig!!!

The other smaller knife I walked the grind up Way to high,so it doesn't look very good...

The little fat handled knife thats really pointy is also hollow ground, and the grind is near perfect on it..
However I started screwing with the drill press and realized I F-ed it up after the first hole was drilled..

Oh well...

The little Kiradashis and the harpoon thing are all flat ground...

Anyway,, Thanks for the encouragement...
I've got another 6 feet of steel to play with so we'll see how it goes...

Hey Guys..

Thanks much..
I really appreciate it...
I can hardly wait until I can grind again later tonight...

Right now I'm more concerned about grinding straight then how the overall looks of the knife are..
Just roughing in blanks right now so I can practice the grinds..

I'll tighten and tweek the looks of them later...

Keith..

I seen yuor knife as well,, looks pretty darn good...
I tried to reply to your thread but the computer locked up...

Thanks

Who said you messed up drilling the holes ?? When you are making a knife the way it ends up is the way you wanted it to be who is to say its wrong.;)

I was scared to death of hollow grinding too until I tried it. Nothing to it. Patience...Something I don\'t have much of. I figured that if I was going to get the hang of this I better learn some lol. Just take your time, and be sure you have a good light on your wheel. The biggest thing to me is not being able to actually SEE what I\'m doing. You have to FEEL the groove, and it can be tough, as you have seen, but just keep at it and it will come.

I\'m not looking forward to it, but I have to do my second hollow grind here soon. I have started on a fixed blade knife and now I have to do it. It took me about 3 hours to do both sides on my first knife, maybe it won\'t take that long this time...
