Which knife or knives were you initially un-enthusiastic about but have now grown to like:D

For me it's this Paul Chen Sheffield stag folder. At first I found it difficult to open and close and disliked the colour of the stag scales. But now it's mellowing on me and is approaching EDC just need to get it more pocket-worn

Is there any way of darkening the scales? It's a kind of salmon pink:barf: When I would like it a treacle or darker colour.

The first time that I saw a Spyderco knife, I thought that it was the ugliest damned thing that I had ever seen, Now, I have grown to appreciate their designs for their ergonomics and to love them.

QFT! I used to think I would hate the spydy hole, wouldnt look at em. But now I own lots of em and they are one of my favorite companies. Another one is Busse. I didnt understand the cost or the construction, however after being lent one to try out I quickly fell in love.

Spyderco here as well. They're not the prettiest things but they're so damn functional it's not even close to funny. I love the ones I have and wouldn't trade for all the tea in China.

For me it's Bucks. Getting older and I just really like the American made classic (yes, some are made overseas now but I don't tend to buy those).

Years ago I didn't want anything to do with them. However, I really like them now.

It's not super tacticool but very useable and a super bargain in my mind!

the spyderco Ti ATR, didnt like them at first but after carrying it a while ya really start to appreciate the design, best spydie ever made imho.

I got a Herbertz folder as a gift, and I disliked the knife before I even got the box open, due entirely to things I have read here and on other forums. Surprisingly, the knife's fit and finish were pretty darned good.... the ergonomics were good, and it was rather attractive. It was very, very sharp and I have slowly come to appreciate the knife. I don't know if I got one of the rare 'good ones' or what, but I do like it.

Interesting. What Herbertz model is that? I have one with micarta scales and it's not bad, considering it's cheap but the other ones I have... all have dubious and fragile locks...I wouldn't like to have to trust them!

It is the one shown here.
There is zero blade play when open and the liner lock actually engages very securely. I haven't ever carried it (too large), but it has grown on me.

CRKT Crawford/Kasper folder.

Was enthusiatic enough to buy it. Became unenthusiatic about it. Became enthusiatic about it again.

For the price, its solid.

A folding SuperKnife.

I had next to no real interest in them, until I was given one to use at work. It's the perfect 'backup' for any cutting work I don't want my normal EDC to see.

For me, It's a BM mini grip. I thought they felt kind of cheap at the store, After I bit the bullet and bought one, It really grew on me! In the real world it feels much better, and very practical.
Another is the Gerber EAB. 10 bucks at wal-fart. I like it! Use it all the time, and I'm not afraid to loan it out.

Just my .02

I second that and have to admit I bought it after your recommendation... :)

i'd echo the thoughts on the Spydercos, just thought they looked goofy at first

i've been lusting after my brother's Military lately

i really like my Jester, Delica and Native though as well

At first I did not like my Swamp Rat M6. The micarta handle felt hard and strange compared to the RES C handles I was used to. After a while I learned to like the micarta and the Mischief handle which is weird but useful for several different grips. I still prefer RES C but I won't be getting rid of my M6.

I too didnt like spyderco at first but when I learned a little more about knives I learned of the true usefulness of them=). Another knife that i didnt like at first is the BM 710, I cant say I hated it but it didnt interest me at all. Eventially I came around to it and decided to by one--love it and it is my favorite edc=)

Spydercos , and Striders . It took me a long time to take the plunge on a Strider .

Chris

Sleazy confession time.....Just got a Rough Rider through the post (rising feelings of guilt):D didn't expect much at all but this red bone work knife with liner lock is amazingly good. Bit like a large sodbuster(4.75")but with a brass lock, feels very OK and the finish is actually very good! Considering it only cost 6Euro 8.50 dollar it must be a knife that's subsidized and dumped on the market. OK now I await you torrent of abuse:eek:

I hated the buck/strider folders at first....
Found what I thought was a deal on one on ebay(882 w/ nylon handles) for $75 so I bit. After a week of carry it became my favorite knife!
