Grown to like?

Spoke too soon about that RR.
Yes it looks OK, it opens and locks OK, cuts OK but...

BUT when slicing an apple with it the fruit's acid reacted with the red bone handles...what's that strange smell I asked myself? Why are my hands red?? Oh god what's this the dye was running because of the acid, hands covered in red gunk that stank.Who knows WHAT they use to dye handles in China but it looks toxic and stinks like diesel fuel!

What do American manuf use to colour bone scales with, particularly red ones? Bet the colour doesn't run off on these! Go on,have a good laugh why don't you...

Is there any way of darkening the scales? It's a kind of salmon pink:barf: When I would like it a treacle or darker colour.

Try Potassium Permanganate (you can get it off ebay)...Its a water treatment chemical.

A small amount of water in a cup mixed with this and it will have a purple / blue look to it (don't worry your knife wont turn out that color). Mix well and use a cotton towel or a q-tip to apply (try not to get any on you...its a B#@$H to get off). Rinse and repeat to get the look you desire. Some stag and bone materials will absorb better than others.

A small amount of PM will last you a long time, you only need to add a spoonful or two per cup.

Benchmade Rukus. At first I thought it was ridiculous and laughable but I have grown to be very comfortable with all that blade (I still think the handle might be a bit too big). In fact, it has spurred me onto quite a few other bigger knives that I once thought to be too much, such as the Endura 4 Wave, which subsequently replaced the Rukus as my favorite knife that I own. It's a good feeling to be carrying both of these at the same time.
