Today I spent some time hand sanding up a 5" flat ground hunter getting it ready for HT.. ok lookin good.. sweeet, time to fire up the forge! Heated it up, quenched straight down, pull it out after a couple minutes and WTF IT'S WARPED!! ARGHHH! Alright, let's try to straighten it..it's still warm. SNAP! SON OF A B$!^%!! F#@$ S*&% DA#%IT!!! Ughh.. sorry just had to vent a little. I'm thinking from now on I'm not using 1/8" for anything over 3 inches.

It could have been worse, you could have not noticed a slight warp until half-way through polishing and THEN have it snap trying to fix it. :foot:

Lol, yeah, that's true. It could always be worse. I actually think I can salvage it. I ground the blade into a shorter DP hunter/skinner right where it broke off but I still need to heat it up and straighten the slight warp then re-HT it. Good thing O1 is forgiving like that! Not quite what I wanted out of it though.. :grumpy:

Or worse, you could try to sell that knife with the warp hoping your customer wouldn't notice it :barf:. I feel your pain, this happens to me too, I make those blades test/shop knives if I cant straighten them. If it brakes, it's OK, lets inspect the grain under magnification ;)....

Never would I do that. Not that I have customers anyway but, yeah I guess THAT would be worse. Glad I'm not the only one here that this happens to! I'm going to see what I can do with it and I'll post some pics when I'm finished.
