I"ve never written a 'review' here nor do I intend to but I came to the party late on a great knife that a few other people out there will want to know about. Many probably already do.

A while, while back in a thread far, far away, MathewSB posted a referral to a Gryphon M-10 4" fixed blade. I went to the retailer and was impressed by what I saw. I discovered the knife was around for a while last century but disappeared. I still wonder how it had escaped me.

For the cognoscenti out there, the Bob Terzuola designed M-10 is available again, now in VG-10, up from ATS-34. It now has a black DLC coating (which I understand is a good one). It is the little brother his M-30A tactical, also a classic.

After an exhausting 15 or 20 minutes of web research I purchased a Gryphon M-10 and have had it a while now.

The knife is a little jewel. Came sharp and ready. I had 3 goto urban carry fixed blades in my user rotation. I now have 4.

The Zytel handle is phenomenal and has to be gripped to be appreciated. It fits the hand perfectly in every grip, overhands included. Perfect tack, perfect cushioning, perfect texturing (varying on different parts of the handle). The knife is full tang but the Zytel fully encloses the tang (though you get a peek of steel in the lanyard hole, which is good sized). I don't remember experiencing a handle so universally (all grips) comfortable on a knife.

The balance is what you'd expect of a perfect tactical. Fine movement is like holding air. Jimped on the spine only where it should be. It would be misleading, however, to refer to this as a utility/tactical; it's vice-versa---the purpose of the knife is obvious. The grind of the pointy, 3/16ths" spearpoint false edge blade says only one thing but my use will of course be utility.

I haven't checked the Rockwell but assume it to be around 59-60 on the VG-10.

The SheathPro hard sheath alone is worth fully half of what I paid for the whole rig, Spyderclip included. Superb. Tight as a Vatican picnic. Each sheath is hand fitted. I have sheathed the knife 50-70 times trying to detect contact with or scratching of the blade and can't find a single trail....even on an oiled blade. The DLC coating still looks brand new.

The whole package is a great carry--like it's not just the knife but a whole 'system' on your pants or belt. The Spydie G-clip making all configurations possible, even IWB or OWB just clipped to the pants is mainly unfelt and feels very secure. The package is slim, straight and unoticeable against the body, yet the feeling is that it is carried snugly in tight.

I'd carry it as a necker, too.

The whole package new for $100. I consider it a solid deal.

Thanks to MatthewSB if you're out there.

This was NOT a review. :grumpy:

No pics? WORTHLESS. Ban for Echoil! Anyone seen my pitchfork? :D

Hmmmm...very nice little hold-out blade!

And yes, you may stay...FOR NOW (sweeps a royal cape around). LOL That is a sweet little blade.

Tell ya what....it IS. Hope someone else who can appreciate it will find it now.

I had one of those a loooong time ago. I liked it a lot. It was a very nice knife. I don't remember what the blade steel was back then, but I remember it working very well. Held a great edge.

Sorry, I "borrowed" your pitchfork for W&C, as things were getting a little out of hand. Not that anything in W&C is ever not out of hand.

Anyway, definitely a cool knife. Good find!

I remember Gryphons from a long time ago, I thought was cool that they had a divot where they tested the hardness of the blade.

*laughing* I KNEW you either had or had one.......

I'm just glad I saw Matthew's post on it. I think he was recommending it to someone with a kayak or something. It was one of those, "That's it!" moments when I saw it.

Hahaha! You know it man! I've had many a knife in my day, and I'm telling you, I truly regretted trading this one off. It was bad ass. I'm glad you are enjoying it!

Thanks to MatthewSB if you're out there.

You're welcome, glad you like it :)

I like mine so much I have a spare. It's a brilliant knife, at a great price, with a great sheath. It's the only small fixed blade that I've used that is soooooo secure in it's sheath that I never worry about losing it, I think because the knife is so light and the handle's small double guard provides ample material for the expertly fitted kydex to grab onto. I use mine as a lightweight utility knife when out hiking or canoeing. I've been carrying and using this one for a while, the finish still looks great :

Yeah, man. I agree on all counts. Might pick up another one myself. In fact, that M30-A1 is looking awfully good right now.

You're right...brilliant knife.

Another Plus+1 for the M10, it's a great knife, just like everybody else says. Though I haven't put mine to a great deal of use yet.
I'm curious about that M30-A1 now, too... hm...

Ha, the Gryphon line is one that I've never seen a bad review on. They've been loved ever since their introduction. If you're curious, Terzuola's Battle Guard customs is what they are based on.

You'll probably have trouble finding an M30a1, they were discontinued a couple of years ago. Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths used to sell them with his excellent Drawpoint sheath. Not sure if he's still doing business, but he used to keep a few in stock.

Meyerco was still making the CQB1, but I think they recently discontinued them as well. If you've never held one, the CQB1 feels very similar to the M30a1, but has a guardless micarta handle.

They usually left the divot on the flats, by the Gryphon logo.

Gooey---I finally wrote and axed them about the RC test and dimple. Got the following reply from Jeff:

We stopped having each blade Rc tested, as many customers thought it was a defect in the blade, even when we tried to explain.
Stay sharp!
Jeff

The stated RC of the M-10 in VG-10 is 58-60.

Yeah it is, man. I'm still fondling the damn thing after weeks.

The M30's about to get me too now....
