I've been considering purchasing one or the other of these designs, but haven't been able to make up my mind yet. Does anybody have any experience with these two, maybe even own both of them? From what I can see the ony differences are the zytel handle on the M30 and micarta on the CQB, and they both have different sheathes. I seem to recall some saying the handles on the CQB were a little smooth. Any opinions on these two? Is one better than the other?

I have seen both of these knives up close, with the Gryphon coming on the market first. In my opinion, the Gryphon is better in terms of fit and finish, etc.. Not that the Camillus is bad, it's just that every single Gryphon knife I have seen or owned has been so precisely ground that it scared me. I mean as close to perfect as can be. I can live with the Zytel with grinding like that.

I have owned both. Dando is right about the precision of the gryphon and it is scary sharp. But right now I don't own the gryphon but I do have 2 of the CQB1 plain edge knives. I can not stand the zytel handles of the gryphon even though it does have a little better guard. After carrying my gryphon a little while I notice the checkering on the zytel wearing off. Also I like the sheath on the CQB1 much better. But the main thing I like better about the Camillus is the balance of the knife. It just feels like an extension of your hand. My 2 cents worth. I'd try hard to feel the handles on both. I like the Gryphon's better, but it may be reverse for you.
