Gso-12

I've been waiting for this one...but I'm not thrilled with the idea of pre-ordering. What is the anticipated time to completion?

What is the anticipated time to completion?

That's what she said.
Sorry.

There really isn't one, I don't think. If you're throwing in on the Survive Starter, I'd plan on waiting up to possibly a year for your knife, but guys who are into custom knives tell me that's not that long to wait... :p

Easter cannot come soon enough!!! I promised my wife I'd wait until then to invest anymore money in cutting implements, and she didn't accept "shop credit" as a valid alternative ;)

I would have preferred a full-height grind for aesthetics but look forward to testing the balance and chopping force of this thing  Also that handle is very appealing....

I've invested in S!K pre-orders more than once, I am one who can stand the wait. But for those who cannot, the discount isn't that significant. A reason i am willing to pay and wait isn't for the discount alone, it's investing in Guy and Ellie and what they are trying to do. Good things coming

A year isn't too long to wait; when you're told a year, and it takes a year. The last knife I ordered that was supposed to take a year was nearly 27 months ago; and I've gotten nothing but excuses. If I hadn't had to put 50% down, I'd have told him to keep the damned thing by now.
I know they've been working hard to prevent future issues, but Survive! preorders don't have the best history. Whether I will even think about putting myself down for a 12 will depend on the terms (I haven't read them, yet).

That is looking pretty nice! I'm liking the profile. Is it possible to see a "straight on" profile view?

I'm guessing the wait for these will be awhile. With the exception of one or two, just about every knife I've received from Survive! has been a pre-order. They always arrive and they're always close to perfect. I haven't been disappointed yet. I'm in for one of these and a 4.7. Mike

Just looked at the Survive! website. There is a "straight-on" view. Thank you.

Oh boy! I gots to find a way to get one without the wife knowing. Lol. How's the sheath going to be like on this one? It might be a little tough since there's a wide portion.

Seeing the handle on the rendering really makes a difference. When I saw the rendering of the blade only I thought "this looks like useful tool that plenty of people will get a lot of use put of". Now seeing the handle I'm thinking "I don't have a use for this, but I need it".

I love saber grinds and I think this design is pleasing to look at as well as functional.

I saw Guy's reply to a comment on Facebook about avoiding a recurve because it is easier for the average user to sharpen. He really puts a lot of thought into his designs.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experiences with whatever custom maker that was you're talking about. Since the GSO-12 is an odd thickness at .215" we will need to get some custom thickness sheets rolled for this project. That will also allow us to have them rolled to a non standard length, which should help us increase the nest yield a bit. Those sheets will take between 5-6 weeks to be ready, so this will be the last model to be produced as part of the SURVIVE! Starter.

We purposely didn't give hard dates for anything to avoid hard feelings about the perception of being late. That being said, I really don't expect it to take nearly as long as in the past to begin getting these delivered. Even with as many models as we have in the pipeline, there is a plan to handle it all. We're investing in new equipment, which will help speed things up and improve our standard. Additionally, the rest of the steel needed for other knife models is either already purchased and waiting to be cut or will be arriving shortly. We are ready for this.

I know that none of this will take anywhere close to a full year but go ahead and mentally prepare yourself for a year long wait. That way you'll be pleasantly surprised when your blade arrives really early. ;)

I just preordered one. I'm gonna forget about the money and hope one shows up in NJ sooner than later :)

Just wanted to give a quick update, to give anyone who is interested some additional information. The center of mass on the GSO-12 will be about 2.25" ahead of the front edge of the handle. Also, based on a common tool steel density, we anticipate that it will weigh roughly 1.75 lbs.

I'm really hoping this baby shows up sooner than later. I've waited a year for a blade before and it sucks. I'd really like to have this thing for camping in the fall. Talk about a firewood processing monster!

Will this have the same 90 degree spine as the rest?

Yep, all of the blades in new production will be finished to the same standard. Hard enough edges for scraping and ferro rod striking but not ice skate, uncomfortable, possibly hurt yourself sharp.

Alright cool. Probably something like the spine on a BHK blade I'm guessing. The 12 will be my wood processor so being able to scrape tinder and get a fire started IF necessary will be nice. Thanks Guy!

On Facebook, when Guy was discussing reasons he did not to put a lanyard hole at the front of the handle, he mentioned something about another lanyard technique that would lock your hand in place. Does anyone know what he was referring about?
