Gso-12

On Facebook, when Guy was discussing reasons he did not to put a lanyard hole at the front of the handle, he mentioned something about another lanyard technique that would lock your hand in place. Does anyone know what he was referring about?

Maybe this? The lanyard is looped around the handle and keeps my hand in tight contact - not as secure as forward & rear holes, but more versatile (i.e. easily undone for when such an arrangement is not desired).

On this blade especially, with the handle shape and contouring as it is, I really didn't seeing anything like that being necessary. I am looking for a video demonstration of the technique I prefer if I happen to be using a retention lanyard. You loop your thumb through the end of the lanyard and then wrap it around the back of your hand. The higher the velocity of the swing, the better the retention feels. It is a pretty simple set up.

Thanks, a video would be great.

BTW I put in my pre-order. Very excited.

Not my preferred method, but here is a video that a google-search gave me: (skip to 4:00 if desired)

I think this might have been the video Guy was referring to....?

Never been one for strapping a 10 inch sharp piece of metal to my wrist but ok. Better hold on good or you will split your elbow open.

Yeah, I moved completely away from using any sort of lanyards a good while back. My form and grip strength improved as a result.

Here is the video I had found. Shortening it up to create a proper amount of tension is the trick to it working well. This guy goes on a bit but it isn't really a bad thing if you have a few minutes to spare.

That guy has good points and has thought it out. No lanyard is the way to go and also knowing what you are capable of.

What about orange handles? I need to match my GSO10.

We were thinking that the G-10 might be a little slick feeling in the hand for a blade this big and didn't offer any of them. We stuck with canvas materials and linen, since the fabric base provides some better traction. You are the first person to bring this up. If it looks like there might be a real demand for it, we may run a few sheets for you guys. Just know that since the surface isn't porous at all on G-10, when your hand gets sweaty and you're swinging a 1.76 lb blade you'll really need to hold on it.

I had the orange handles on my gso-10 and they were a bit slippery.

The Survive Starter page says April 30. I've got mine in my cart...just deciding whether I want to click. (I've got other knives that I'll have to pay for soon, and that damn custom hanging over my head that will probably nail me as soon as I spend too much money.)

Thanks Guy. I'm totally fine with a little slick feeling. I need my orange fix! Lol

I can be a witness to the g10 being too slick for the 12. It's a little scary on a 10. Although it's very sexy. I mean if you never plan to use your knife I guess it wouldn't be bad.
