I think ellie is right. A lot of people don't want to buy without knowing the steel. I considered it, but didn't for said reason.

I missed them last week, and then bought a used custom Sunday night or I'd have nailed one down. Just bad timing for me, but at least I have one in 3V coming.

I also considered it but again not for the "mystery" steel reason.
My reasons:
1- lack of more customization options aside from two choices of micarta style handles since I prefer G10 anyway!
2- quite close in its actual blade size to a GSO 5.1 (once you discount the choil real estate) of which I had ordered two already.
3- My TOPS BoB with Scandi grind although not the same caliber of knife, still performs loyally & admirably for the tasks which can be thrown its way.
But if the other choice was say a GSO 3.5, I'd be all over it with its secret steel or what not!

The link to the GSO 4.7 with SS is no longer there, so those of us who didn't pull the trigger on this model will now just have to wait for their possible availability later on.

Oh snap! I guess I'll have to watch for my opportunity later this spring or summer after they've done the big reveal. I need cerakoted GSO's in my line up of knives!
EDIT: I just went to the website and the link is still there for me. I'm accessing the Internet through my phone. It still looks like it did yesterday and this morning for me. Weird!

Apologies to you Ellie, Silver Needle and everyone else for my misinformation and also thank you for the update. I was indeed going by the top links on the Production Schedule page and didn't look below on the next paragraph relating to pre-orders!

There are only the original 40 (30 giveaways and 10 sold) that have the "Pre-Production Sample" and no steel information. The giveaways are all green canvas handles, then there are 5 each of natural brown and black canvas for the 10 sold samples. Those ones are all from the first batch of Cerakoting so some of them have some small blemishes while he got used to working with blades rather than guns.
The one's being sold this week will have the steel type engraved on them. They will also go through QC to look out for blemishes in the coating.
