Soooo for all you guys out there shopping for a 5.1 and trying to avoid the markup....

The GSO-5.1 will be available for preordering for 48 hours, from Monday, May 9th at 2pm to Wednesday, May 11th at 2pm.

So much for the secondary market!!

Justin, I admire your eye for finding things like this! Really glad you let us all know. EDIT: I didn't read the newsletter all the way to the bottom as I was fixating on the top portion.............. regardless, good thread.

verysimple, as far as we've heard, everything after this round of 2.7's will have the new heat treat.

This is from the website. This would go perfectly in a FAQ sticky!

Due to overwhelming demand, the GSO-5.1 will be available for preordering for 48 hours, from Monday, May 9th at 2pm to Wednesday, May 11th at 2pm.

Reasons to Preorder a GSO-5.1:
- It is an awesome blade! Don't believe us though, read the reviews.
- No extra charge for the more expensive materials
- Guarantees you will receive a new GSO-5.1, with the exact specifications you are looking for.
- Locks in an order at today's price
- So you won't have to deal with the crowds each Monday
- It will let us know if we have enough steel already, or if we need to order more.

Reasons NOT to Preorder a GSO-5.1:
- There is no guaranteed delivery date so placing a preorder will require patience. This run will go faster because the setup is already done rather than starting from scratch, but they do still need to be made.

Wonder what time frame?---- 6 Mo's?

Justin: You just hex'ed me :p

VerySimple: My guess is that they're referring to the new PHT they've been implementing as of late 2015 through 2016. I don't know if there's any new tweaking but I'm absolutely not in-the-know!

Zak: I agree with that time frame since they're stating that the blades still need to be produced because I think that the last 5.1 run must have taken care of all the 1st's and then the blems. It will be a very exciting Thanksgiving and Christmas for some new 5.1 folks ;)

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. I've never owned a Survive! knife but have heard overwhelmingly positive reviews. I think this'll be my first.

6 months from when? From right now? From when they start production? We won't be seeing more 5.1's until they're all the way through the 4.5 and 10 and 12, right?
Much like the Navy doesn't talk about submarines and the CIA doesn't talk about spies, I'm pretty sure that Survive no longer talks about production time frames. :)

I totally respect and support that decision and I'm not trying to squeeze Ellie for information. I'm just trying to keep in mind that there are so many great models that the team has to get through before circling back to the 5.1.

So.... is that GMT, East coast, West coast, or Idaho time ?

It doesn't say which so I wouldn't assume any, but would say check PST and work forward from there.

Generally if it's unspecified go with local. Ellie usually does Monday sales at a time specified in PST as well.

Will the next round of 5.1's happen after all the models that are already in the production schedule are finished or will you sneak them in between models that are already scheduled?

Most or all of us here are totally at peace with whatever wait times lay ahead because we know it is always worth it, but if a new person is ready to jump on this preorder for a 5.1 and then has to wait for all other models to get through production, is it fair to say they should be prepared to wait several years?

After recent discussions here, I'm NOT asking for an estimate, just trying to give an idea of what brand new people are signing up for.

If you had a preorder for another batch of 4.7's with the delta heat treat, I'd put money down today, but there seems to be enough people on Facebook that were not prepared for a one year wait for 4.7's or later models.

Hopefully these questions are able to be read in the light of trying to clarify rather than jackassedness.

Silver,

Has anyone complaining put their money where their mouth is?

I'm sure they could cancel their order, or even sell the spot if Ellie is down with that.

I'd give someone $20 for their trouble and completely pay out their order today if they were that upset and wanted out now.

I'm hoping it's just a vocal minority, but the official facebook page is filled with people complaining. As an example, a guy who ordered a 7/7 starter said it shouldn't take a year to get his knife... even though there was plenty of explanations in the starter information that there was no guaranteed delivery date. So, a lot of the complainers already did pay and maybe read the disclaimers, but if they're used to buying Beckers and ESEE's might not be prepared for the wait ahead.

Yeah, you are likely right. Many people with experience dealing direct with S!K have waited 6-12 months. No doubt. They are probably used to waiting 3 days for the knife to ship, so they figured MAYBE a few months but were not prepared.

Ah well, my level of interest is -10 on a scale of 1-10 of going on Facebook, and even less to see what people are QQing about.

We should see if Ellie is OK with people taking their spot.

I am ok with waiting. At least I know my spot is secured. I hope pre-order is available for the 4.7. I like my 5.1 but I think I am preferring choiless.

Now I feel like I'm over thinking it. We all understand it here, but I guess we'll see what happens.
