Alrighty, here it is, the newly revised SURVIVE! GSO-7/7. The blade has been lengthened a bit and its profile changed slightly. The handle has been lengthened quite a bit and the handle profile has undergone some dramatic changes to improve ergonomics and retention. You'll also notice that I've left a bit more pommel exposed on this one, for more effective hammering/striking capability.

Looking good, this is the one I was waiting for, might have to grab one to go with my 4.1 and necker II. Thanks Guy!

edit: What upgrades will be available free of charge on the pre-order as per your site?

That is a fine lookin knife there! The blade does look longer for sure! Is it over 8"?

Awesome!

It varies for each model but on this one it applies to things like handle material, ferro notches, bowdrill divots, things that usually cost more. Different handle materials cost us different amounts for the sheet stock, so we would usually up-charge the more expensive materials a bit. On knives offered in two steels, they are both offered at the same price.

It is an optical illusion! I know what you mean though, it certainly looks aggressive now. The blade is actually 7.25" from the tip to the front edge of the handle.

It does look quite stabby but it is a knife! Looks like a winner!

Looks great! Going to be my go to woods knife so I hope they aren't too far back in production on the Starter lineup.

Thank you for posting that. It helped me to decide which S!K I will be purchasing. You will be seeing my 7/7 order later today!

Looks great! I really dig the updates to the handle. Curious if there will be an eventual swedge option in the future for these?

Love it! Beans from memory only about 90 units of the old 7.7 were produced with a swedge
I cannot remember the exact reason but Guy said no more would be made in that config. It was either that it was hard to get a consistent finish unit to unit or the wear on production machines was too great. Either way if y5 can get one of the old 77's on the secondary market, you have a very limited collectors peice!

Any possibility of Terotuf handles?

No, just not a big fan of terotuf. The only color that comes out looking ok is grey. The cloth base of the material has white treads, that look like hell as soon as you begin to use the handles. The resin binder isn't consistently dense enough to keep from having large voids in the handle surface after finishing. Even on some high end knives you sometimes see pockets in the handle face. We experimented with it but I wasn't really impressed.

Man! Looks good. Will the 5.1 handle look like that?

Not quite as exaggerated but it is similar. The heart and soul of every SURVIVE! knife is utility but the GSO-7/7 is designed primarily as a combat knife. As such, with aggressive underhand or overhand thrusts in mind, the handle profile is very contoured for excellent retention. The GSO-5.1 is a bit more utility oriented but still very capable in a combat knife role. We should have the GSO-5.1 revision coming along shortly.

Being an owner and user of the current 7/7, I believe these changes will enhance the current version. Thanks for sharing and let me know when I can get one.

I love how anytime some one asks a question about materials or design choices Guy or Ellie never say "well we don't like that" or "we're not interested in looking into that". Every time it seems they have a specific response like "we gave that a try and this is how high our standards are and that material or design didn't meet those standards".

I've seen a lot of that here and on Facebook especially since the new designs have been released

We are definitely willing to try anything that sounds like a good idea. Guy is a thinker and is always coming up with his own ideas. Then user feedback either encourages or reroutes him. We do a lot of brainstorming and have been through a lot of trial and error.

We also don't ever want people to have the impression that we are being sneaky or deceitful. My dad hated being told, "because I said so" and so he never used those words with me. That has been a valuable life lesson about being able to explain yourself.
