GT Auto Tanto...if your considering one!

This might belong on the auto thread but this is a review. I recently puchased a GT Auto Tanto blk ti on blk for a show piece. I have two friends who are now demanding I get them one of these knives. I'm no expert(I'll be the first to tell ya) but I had read an ariticle in a mag which I won't plug, because I'm not a mercenary, but saw a review nonetheless. After a little homework(thanks to ABC direct) I made an informed decision about buying one of these. Without a doubt this has to be one of the better autos on the market for the price. You don't have to be an auto fan to like this knife, you'll become a fan. Ok, enough babbling!
The knife arrived intact very heavy with a funky clip attathced. I wasn't overly impressed upon first glance. Afer opening and closing it a few times, I became infatuated with the firmness of the release and lock-up of the blade. I wish the blade was a little larger in comparison to the handle. The GT is quality, solid construction alum. handle and a nice AT-34 ti coated fully serrated blade or 8/10ths, brass sunken release button( hasn't gone off in my pocket yet!). I must also comment on the weird shaped handle, but I love it...I have no intentions on any piercing actions, but rest assured your hand is not going to slide up the blade should you stabb something. GT has also give you the option of placing the clip blad up or down on the handle, although I removed the clip because I couldn't remove the damn thing when using the clip from a number of pockets I tried. If you can buy it without the clip, it was a nice attempt on GTs part but it simply isn't effective as a quick draw clip. So in closing, thumbs up to the GT auto, you can't go wrong for the $$$.

Hi Salmon - did you try to stretch the clip a bit away from the handle? I know that it does not bend as easily as regular steel clips, but with caution you can stretch the aluminum clip away from the handle to make it easier to clip to thicker materials (e.g. jeans). I've done this with my MA GT tanto folder. Give it a try if you wish!

Thanks Dexter, I'll give it a try. After all the clip is unique and does add to the overall asethetics of the knife.

Just a note! I contacted GT directly regarding their product line of autos. I must say I recieved first class service from JM, their marketing/keep customers happy rep, he did an exceptional job. I must have talked to him for about 45 minutes..not what you'd expect from most manufactorers. No, I don't own stock in the company..I just appreciate good service when I receive it! I recently read a thread regarding the GT auto that was less than complimentary...something about the lockup bieng loose, my question is why complain..send it back to GT. They seem genuinely concerned with the customer and most likely they won't fix your knife but send you a new one. Very Pleased GT owner signing off!

Hi Salmon - boy, did J.M. talk your ear off too?

Seriously, I've spoken with him on the phone several times and he's a very helpful guy. Anyone who might have a problem with their GT knife, don't hesitate to call J.M.!

Dexter,
He sure did! I had to cut him off, from what I gather he doesn't read the threads, so no offense should be taken. Funny, I thought the same thing...how about the accent, what is it?

Glad you like the knife Salmon.

JM will talk your ear off but the info is worth the talk. GT (Greg and Todd) are great guys too. We got to meet them at the last Blade Show and I look forward to many new products from these two great minds.
