I'm setting up a guard (more of a large spacer but I'll just refer to it as a guard) for my next knife and I need a little help.

The guard is in this order, top down, a 3/16" piece of copper, a thin nickel sheet (about 1mm), and thin copper sheet (.5mm).

I want to stack these prices before I set them up on the handle and drill the tang slot. What adhesive would you all recommend? Is locktite apoxy fine?

I have a "glue stick" of this JB weld stuff but I'm not so sure how well it works, has anyone used this before?

Thanks for helping out,
Kevin

I use little (2mm) horizontal pinns to keep everything aligned when working the materials.
They go about half way trough the first layer.
This way the tang slot of the layers between the first and handle material can be larger
I'm still looking for good adhesive myself. Clear epoxy works but can show thin black lines and come lose with just a bit of heat.
Superglue is an option, it works good when you clamp everything

I place a template on the guard and drill trough it.
Afterwards I flip the template, place it upside down on the handle material and drill trough the holes.
That way the holes line up and the pinn holds everything in place

You need mechanical fasteners on stacked metal = Pins or screws.
Glue won't work ... especially on copper, which heats up a lot in shaping and sanding.

Thanks guys

I have some 1/8" copper pins I can use to fasten down the guard.

I was thinking of switching my layout and using a piece of mokume I have left over as the top layer. Little copper pins showing at the top would probably ruin the look of the mokume. Would just drilling holes half way through the mokume, but fully through the other two layers be a good approach? Then add small amounts of crazy glue to each layer to help hold it together?

that's how I would do it.
The pinns going sticking out of the metal on the pic I showed are only in there 2/3 of the thickness
Tho I am thinking of Stacies way with threads

Ok that makes more sense.

I have a tap and die set so I could thread the pins if you guys think that will help.
