Guard on a puukko?

Thanks for the info. I guess that's true about the varnish -- I haven't seen the wax treated ones, only the very slippery ones. Nifty!

I really like the look of that sissipuukko.

I guess the problem is that while I'm careful when I cut, I seem to fall prey to bad luck if things can go wrong (Murphy loves me) and I tend to prefer things that have as many safety blocks as I can get. Doesn't include rounded tips though. ;)

Uh.... why do you think I stay away from guardless, slipjoint SAKs? I've had the blade collapse on me before while cutting...Hell, I've sliced up my index finger on a Gunting... ;)

It's not that I'm not paying attention. It's that, invariably, the blade gets hung up in the ONE bit of extra-tough cardboard, or someone says, "HI!!!" really loudly behind me and I let go a little and the knife slips backwards... ;)
