Guard Slotting Help

yeah i could do that.... or i could just braze it again, i was just wondering if there were a solution to the problem where i wouldn't have to remove the guard. i think the stick welding would be too hot

If you have anything resembling quench plates that you can put the body of the blade in to act as a heat sink, you can arc weld it without excessive heating. You could use a wire-feed welder, too.

I doubt you can do either of those or braze it with the guard on.

i went though the whole process again. turned out nice... i wanted to grind the tang a little smallerto fit in the piece of curly maple i have for it. the braze broke off again..... i said screw it... i filled the handle with epoxy and shoved everything in. now its a new shop knife live and learn.
having the one side of the dovetailed tang brokenoff really took away from the stability of the tang. it allowed it to flex too much, nothing to help keep it in place and the silver braze just couldn't take that i guess
