Hey guys,
I've made a pretty nice fighter, that needs a guard, it's a full tang so I planned a single guard. Are there any detailed tutorials for making a nice guard I was thinking one with the finger area (bottom of the guard) ground out for a recessed finger slot. Basically the same one you see on most hunters, I've ben looking at fighters all over the place, most of them seem to be a double guard, or hidden tang. ANY help, ideas, web sites, links to past posts, ANYTHING!!! Will be greatly appreciated. This baby isn't perect, it was close, until I found a deep scratch on the clip and then handsanded it to where the clips don't match as well as they did. I'm still very proud of it anyway, it's my first hollow grind, second clip point, and my 5th knife I've made. ( I got benched for a month with Tendonitis in both elbows in September, actually had tennis elbow and golfer's elbow in my left arm, and tennis elbow in my right. So I had to shut it down completely to get over it) Thanks for any and all ideas contributions, everything. I have seen most of the basic single guard tutorials, it just seems to me that I'm missing something. I have a stick of 416 stainless that should be big enough...might not be wide enough, and some 416 1 1/2 wide 1/4 in thick, wishing now i'd gotten some thicker, the blade is 1/4 thick 1095. I have rounded off the front where the guard will fit into it, had a piece of 1095 I was going to use, but decided against it. The plan was to blue it, then polish it to bring out the fine shine. But my finish on it came out so nice that I've reconsidered that as well. My wife gushed over the finish, which made me doubt my plans...women! Ok I'm rambling, so I'll shut up now, it's late ..or early and that happens when I'm sleep deprived, So I'll say thanks and good night. Rex

Rex,

I'm not sure if this fits the bill but...

THIS LINK should take you to the WIP thread for my 5th knife. It is a full-tang (tapered) fighter with a guard (I think the technical term is a "saddle-guard").

Good luck. Post some photos of what you come up with.
