Guardian Tactical Helix & Patron folders..

I don't have a caliper, but it is a substantial tip. I'm not worried about the tip breaking during normal usage - if that is the point of your question.

Yep, that was the point. Can you snap a (well lit) pic, like what you'd show if you were showing how centered the blade is when closed?

I became awestruck by the images in the ZT0777 thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1200189-Zt-0777) that i decided to buy the Two Tone Tanto Helix version. It looks like a great knife i can beat on so i am really excited to see how it performs, flips, and checkout the overall fit and finish. If it is great, I will be keeping an eye on this company moving forward.

You will like it a lot. It's quality is comparable to Microtech when they were at their peak IMO, which is second-to-none. Them using CPM-154 when they use a 154 also speaks a lot to their commitment to use the finest materials available given 154CM is on the lower spectrum of nicer steels, but CPM-154 is among the finest one can choose for a folder IMO.

If Guardian continues to produce knives like the Helix, they will quickly become an established name in the knife industry. If they make a (non-auto) mini Helix, it will be able to compete with the Sebenza IMO.

Not for a few days, unfortunately. But...the thread where I bought this knife has a pic similar to what you are asking for. Go here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...cal-Patron-with-Carbon-Fiber?highlight=patron

and if that is not adequate, post back here and I'll get you a better picture as soon as I can (probably the first of next week). :)

Also note that those pics make the knife look like it is two-tone black/brown, but the un-coated portion of the blade is extremely reflective and it is hard to get a picture of the blade without getting some color reflected onto the blade. So, not brown. ;)

Thanks sir, that gives me a pretty good idea. :)

So I had a Ghost Jade Helix sent to me here in Las Vegas while I'm here for a couple weeks. Holy smooth, Batman! I mean, my 0561 is smooth, but this thing feels like it's pivoting on a cushion of air. Wow!!

Awesome choice, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality, flipping and smoothness. I need to do a Vid comparing the 777 and the helix.

It took me a month, but I finally got around to the video if anyone is interested:

Nice review Austonh. You could check for titanium with a magnet since it's non-magnetic. The backspacer is stainless steel. The bead blasting gives it a titanium look. KnifeWorks says the Helix is 4 ounces so it's good that you weighed it at 5.6 ounces. Surprised that they don't offer the stonewashed blade as a regular.

I have to get one of these Guardian Tactical Helix flippers. Love the CF and looks but not so much the multi grind of the blade although the holes look real cool. I like the blade of the Patron better. Anyway, may just get the two-tone blade one although the all blacked out one looks cool too.

Surprised that of the big online knife outfits only KnifeWorks carries them!

Thanks RamZar!

I actually ended up taking a magnet to the entire knife after the video. It stuck to the backspacer, blade, pivot and pocketclip (pretty much everything). I actually didn't know that Knifeworks carried their knives, I ordered directly through them and the only other site I knew of was youwantit2. I think you'll be pleasantly suprised when you pick one up.

I'm also a fan of the reverse tanto on the Patron, and have asked to be contacted when they finally make a smaller version of the patron with a flipper. Not sure when that day will ever come...

Wait until you actually hold one. I have a very large connection of knives from Customs, to ZT LEs to normal production ones, and the Helix is really one of my favorite go to knives. For both of my 0777 (Stonewash and Damascus), other ZT LEs and custom knives, at times i can feel nervous by heavily using the knives simply due to the rarity. However, since this is a production knife i have no reservations and it just performs fantastically. Ontop of being so much fun to flip and flick open.

If anyone has not had a chance to check out one of Guardian Tactical knives out, please do. You will be heavily impressed. For example, the handle is much thicker then a 0777 and to me, just fits the hand better and feels as if it can take a beating.

Just love the knife and am so impressed overall with the quality of their products.

I'd like to see Guardian Tactical make a manual flipper version of the Mini Helix Combat AUTO Folder with the same 3" blade of CPM-154 (0.128" thick) and weighing about 2.8 ounces with Carbon Fiber handles. Of course, with the same smooth flipper action of the Helix and titanium FrameLock. I actually like the blade shape of the Patron better.

This one is still in the design phase, but should be out before the end of the year. I can't guess the weight, but should employ a similar size blade to the helix auto.

Another offering from Guardian Tactical, the auto mini helix.

Has anyone taken one of these apart? I can't get the pivot to budge, tried a lighter but I'm worried about discoloring the scales. I'm assuming it's loctite'd to heck and I'll probably have to heat it with a soldering iron, just wanted to see if anyone else had done it successfully. What's the point of using non-proprietary shaped heads if you are going to lock them up like Fort Knox?

Got an email from Sue at Guardian Tactical that the Mini Helix with a stonewashed 3" blade, manual flipper and carbon fiber handles will be ready towards the end of October for $359. She'll email pictures when available.

I am a huge fan of my patron. It is easily the smoothest knife ive felt yet it lock up rick solid. One of very few knives that I can really say that I feels like a fixed blade. I can't feel it mive at all, I have great knives and they're all solid but if you grab the tip and srart wiggling it a bit you can feel a tiny amount of flex here and there but this sucker is rock solid. Which is amazing considering its mostly carbon fiber and oh what a beautiful cf it is. This us my favorite type of weave carbon fiber but you dont see it in production knives, knly customs and yet gt went the extra mile to use it instead if the 2x2 weave. My only fault are the pocket clip and thumbstub. I hear that GT was started by 2 design Engineers that were at microtech and it shows in theur design, mostly good but it has that damb D.O.C f u clip that eat up your hand. This one whyle not as bad is still uncomfortable but a few minutes with a sander and its good to go. The other issue fir me was the thumbstud. I love to play with my knives and flick the hell out of them byt on my knife the edge of the stud felt sharp and it hurt my finger after a while and I have some thick skin on my thumb from years if flicking. I took some really fine sandpaper to it and it fixed it right up but I figured its best I tell the giid and the bad. Still this is become one of my favorite knives if all time, its a joy to carry, flick and use, has great egos, gorgeous carbon fiber handle, rock solid lock up and a great steel with good geometry. Overall I would highly recommend this knife to anyone who's thinking of getting one.

Guardian Tactical now has the small Exilis Manual Flipper with a 2.9" blade of CPM-154 and a choice of blade finish in Black Tactical, Two-Tone Black, Beadblasted, Stonewash and Dark Stonewash. It has a titanium subframe lock with aluminum handles. Unfortunately, no CF option! They're due to ship next month for $269. Looks to be about the same size as a MicroTech Mini Matrix also with aluminum handles and Ti subframe lock.
