I own a Russian knife with a mikarta guard. Never had trouble.

I saw this knife in an article somewhere.

It's got a micarta guard and pommel and birch bark washer handle.

I'm in love. :)

I also made a 10" bowie that I wanted to put through a torture test. I use black micarta to make a one piece guard and handle. After testing it I gave it away to a friend who uses and abuses it. No breakage yet! I got that idea from a Bladeforum member several years ago but I can't remember who it is.

I use it often. Have a couple of Damascus blades that will have black micarta guards. I also used on a folder. Depends on the buyer but I have had no problem selling these from my shop. The Internet is a totally different response.

Here's one.

Works great. Holds up just as well as many other materials and no rust/tarnish.
