Don't need it , but noticed at a good price , brand new from a reliable dealer for ~$65 shipped .

I've got the original , smaller version and liked it , so ...what the heck ! :p I love the handle bend , semi-pistol grip .

I still got other old CS models I'd grab at the right price , but I don't see many good deals these days .

So , guess I'm not done yet with CS .

I haven't heard of that one, I also have the other version, post some pictures with a comparison.
Oh crap, another one to get, I have all of the others.

Where?

My CS buying spree really took off when I heard about GSM's buyout of the company.
With that said, I felt that if CS came out with a lackluster 2022 new products list, and/or a lackluster 2022 full products catalog, that it would spur a whole new wave of folks focusing on getting what still may be out there in the pipelines.

Although their full 2022 catalog isn't out yet, the new products list may already be a pretty good gauge of what direction they are heading to.
It still could be that they put out a new 2022 catalog that retains the core line, and that could be a sign of at least one positive thing... But... With a new year, and Lynn Thompson having zilch to do with the contracts made to produce those items, there could now be cost cutting measures put into those contracts by GSM that could water down the end products. In other words, an item that was listed in the 2021 catalog, and then also found in the 2022 catalog, while seemingly being the exact same product, was made under new year contracts done up by GSM and their product manufacturers. Knowing how today's practice of big investing firms buying out small companies, and then cutting things in big ways for cost cutting/profit gains, I would be less trusting that a GSM contracted product would be the equal to the same model product contracted out to a manufacturer by Lynn Thompson.
Since Lynn Thompson was still the owner of Cold Steel during most of 2021, I feel confident that those contracts were very much still done by Lynn Thompson himself. He being such a stickler about his company/his baby, while of course he would also want to cut costs in certain ways, he doesn't seem the type to get too chintzy, since he did take a lot of pride in offering good quality at a working man's price tag.

Yup, my opinion on this, is just that... My opinion.

But, after seeing the goods in GSM' new 2022 product listing, I have a lot of doubt about what they may have incorporated into all the products they will be offering that were made under their newly controlled contracts with the manufacturing firms. I have almost no doubt that GSM did some serious renegotiations when forming those new 2022 product contracts.

In other words, I'm highly skeptical that the new GSM owners will carry forward the same subtle qualities that an enthusiast like Lynn Thompson was more likely to put into the company's products.

Even if some of speculations turn out to be somewhat true, the stuff in the pipeline is likely under last years contracts, so it should still be okay to pick up some last of the Mohicans stuff 😊

That's one model that, as long as they keep using the same steel and same manufacturing plant in Taiwan, they would have to work hard at somehow diminish it's quality. Except for the synthetic handle scales, the knife is simply one piece of drop forged steel, so it should remain almost impossible for GSM to diminish it by trying to renegotiate it's production cost. It's one of those, "it is what it is" items.
I have two products from the drop forged series, a boot dagger with the old gold'ish color finish, and the Push Knife. Both are serious in the "built like a tank" department. But, the Push Knife is just crazy beast mode heavy duty!
👍😁👍
Their drop forged series is some cool stuff, no doubt!

These drop forged Cold Steel blades are very interesting indeed. It is almost unheard of today to find a knife that isn't just CNC milled bar stock. Drop forging makes steel very tough. Just for this fact alone, I think these should be added to a Cold Steel collection before they are gone. And the drop forged bowie would also be a great, low cost alternative to a 3V Trailmaster because with it being drop forged, it is probably as tough or nearly as tough as 3V.

And yeah, that top guard could be dremeled off and the handle wrapped with grip tape to make it a better bushcraft and woods blade.

Not crazy about the curved handle of the Bowie, but do have the newer version of the Survivalist, and the older version of the Boot knife. Got the boot knife real cheap, and it's one of the sharpest knives out of the box I've ever seen.

Everyone has different preferences . :)

This is my favorite feature , but the orientation is more martial / weapon than tool /utility , IMO .

The pistol grip type handle is great for thrusting and also slashing , in combat .:thumbsup::thumbsup:
As such, seems strange that Lynn didn't incorporate that feature on more knives. Other then the 2 versions of the drop forged bowie, only other one I can think of with a somewhat curved/angled handle is the ODA (many Stag Trail Masters had curved handles, but that's just the nature of stag). The Laredo and Natchez, which are fighting bowies, have straight handles🤔

In my limited guesstimation of LCT's motivations , I believe there was always a compromise in his martial arts and creative blade design impulses vs the entrepreneur /businessman / salesman .

IMO , he understood that innovative weapons alone were not enough . He had to offer some practical utility tools also . And some designs that were somewhat familiar and more traditional . Bowies were supposed to have straight handles , for most consumers . ;)
